Shikamaru vs. Choji

Erm, seriously though. Shikamaru took on Hidan by himself. He's too smart for someone like Choji to pose that much of a threat at all.

If you give Shikamaru preparation time, he would win, but if they just started to fight seriously for no apparent reason, I think Chouji can take this.

All Shikaimaru can really do is trap someone into falling for his Shadow justsu, but it's shown that it can be overpowered, and since Chouji can turn into a building sized mofo, Shikamaru would most likely get overpowered horribly. Thus breaking his any chances Shikaimaru really has.

Chouji also his his spiky meatball rolling thing, and that thing is pretty fast, and I dont know if Shikamaru can easily stop moving something that fast.

All of Shikmaru's victories(all two of them) were just him preparing ahead, or the opponent was really weak.

^QFT. We all forget that:

1: Shikamaru already had experience with the way Hidan's power worked, giving him a huge advantage and...
2:Hidan's strength and offensive options were limited to plain old taijutsu.

Chouji is the strongest of the rookie 9 (the ones without bijuu and curse seals that is), and it's been shown that enough physical strength will let you power through Kage Mane. Even if he's caught, he'll just grow to break free. It would take plenty of traps planted beforehand (like the one that caught Hidan) to seriously injure him.

I don't know about this one... Pre-time skip or post makes a huge difference. I'd like to think that Shikamaru being as smart as he is has more then one type of jutsu now that he is a Chuunin. He's smart, he's fast and can think on his toes. If they faced each other he'd quickly figure out a way to defeat his opponent using whatever terrain he has. But like it's been stated Chouji can turn into a 50ft tall bohemuth so it would make any jutsu pretty hard unless were talking S' ranked jutsus.
