A Violet On My Ritz

LET US START:

"Last night, there was a change in the air,
Couldn't have happened on one weekend,
But how far was too far?

Did we cross the line?
With the screams in the background,
What we said, it all made sense

But now it doesn't.
We were so clear.
So resolved.

But the haze... it has descended.
And know I don't know anymore.

But, yes.
There was a change in the air."

- Alex K.

"The limbs flew all over the place,
Hell it was scary as... well, Hell.

So, we go further in, but we had something to prove.
They wanted us to go,
But heck if we did what they wanted,
We wouldn't be around then, eh?

But like Al said. The town changed.
Fur' sure."

- 'Shadwell'

To my love:

I was just talking to the other boys about it. You know, about the war and them. Thought you might as well hear it too, Alex, being the person he was... I swear, that kid make you cry by just hearing his story.

And Shad, well... He's your brother. You know.
Hopefully this letter will get to you soon. Maybe it'll only take a month this time. You can hope, I suppose.

How is being posted at the East End doing for you?
Hope that locals aren't too rough. The Glory probably hurt 'em so good that they're as obedient as any dog.

Sir Harlequin said we're on the move again.
I think.
You can never tell if he's sarcastic or lying, with him wearing that balaclava and hood of his all the time.

I hope he brings us liberation.
I hope.

Love,
M. O'Malley

The third part. Hopefully more people get into it this time.
Whatever happens, you are given my eternal thanks for being your entertainment, even if I wasn't too good at entertaining you.

I hope it'll never get boring, never get crap.
But it'll stay sad, mysterious, fun, quirky, different.

Thank you again. So, so much.

To whatever happens,
Nick L.

Well, I've been on this ride since it began and I don't intend to get off until you have written all of this down so I'll still be around.

A Violet On My Ritz - 0.2 : Servant of the People

Let us continue:

Who am I? What do I stand for? Why do I exist?
Those are questions we must all ask ourselves. Strangely enough, the answers for each question will end up being the same.

Most of the members of Violet Carson refer to me as Sir Harlequin.
Personally, I'd do just dandy with being titled Harlequin.
But, again strangely enough, we humans have tendencies for titles and ranks.

Why call myself that?
Because I, like one of the original Harlequins, am a servant.
And like them again, I never lose.

But I digress far too much for concern.
So, why we are here? Why do you have an apparent 'terrorist' popping in for a short 'hello'?

Well, firstly, my stay will be far longer than a 'short hello'.

And we, as a people, you and I, him and her, live in a society which is well, Dead.

All we are is little entertainers, jumping around and hurling about on this vaudeville we call the Glory Union. And the only reason we exist? So we keep business running as usual, of course.

When THEY found The Reversal, we had no choice to obey. We had so much to lose if we did not.
But now, we have lost it all.

So now, as a reaction happens to any action, we no longer obey.

And now, I, Harlequin and the members of Violet Carson bid a farewell.

Sorry to impose on your lovely lives but we had to.
To remind you.

Remind you of what you say?
Well, remind you that,

There is hope.
And they are being lead by someone that never loses.

Woot! Read this for the first time. Read it a second time... Then decided to read the other Faustford stories.

I liked the way you wrote it. It doesn't seem very story-like at first, but after reading it, I found that it had that element in it. Never tried writing like that myself though. Its a very interesting way of writing, in transmissions and letters.

Once again, good job. Loved the story.

A Violet On My Ritz - 0.3: Ain't Assuming Equality

Attention all:

Good people of New London,
Today is a fine day.

Or night. Oh, how I continue to ponder how the Glory Postal Department works.
But, regardless, by now, every home in New London should be getting this letter.

By the time you finish though, I suspect the Glory will, at least by 24 hours time, realise that they've just been my courier service, and I must say, their rates are extremely good. I've saved a bundle of money, if I can admit.

But, sorry to rant. I do find that a problem.

The next five days will be an epic mini-series of its own.
Something similar to the ones we formerly used to watch.
Back in the day when our jolly ol' television wasn't a propaganda tool.
Ha ha.

Expect some fire, some explosions, but most of all,
Expect a lot of fun.

I recommend you sit back, relax, perhaps get a bag of treats and enjoy the show.
After all, it was made solely for you, my dear New London.

In fact, its already begun. My, better quieten down then, eh?
May I give a short catch-up summarisation.

Right as we speak, I suspect that every member of your Parliament House of Equality is dead. Why? Because they failed to attain the 'equality' their name suggested. Oh well.

But, in the end, kids, never try this at home.
Then again, a good parent would never let their child play with sarin.

I have taken too much of your time.
Next time, my letter will be replaced by actions.

Yours truly,
Sir Harlequin and Violet Carson

A Violet On My Ritz - 0.4: Number One Hundred, A Charlotte

To All Violet Carsons:

I suppose we could all call this the first episode, yes?
Sorry for the lack of contact to my fellow servants, but instead of apologising, I'll simply show what I've been up to.

To recap, every MP of Parliament is dead.
Good riddance, I suppose.
Ha ha.

Do I sound like Jack the Ripper or what?
I should really work on my image. That could be a thing to handle.
Later, though.

We've been having resource distribution problems, recently.
So I humbly ask any Captains or any leading Officers if they're willing to lend us some runners to go about on our business.

On an another note, promotional season is about us and its time for those little rose buds we've been training all year to have a chance to become a leading officer... Or even higher. We're looking for:

- Clover Ranked Operatives for some of the Secret Service Units.
- Prelate Administration Officers for the Administration.

Oh, and anyone that feels good enough to, the position of High Lord Grand Knight Cross is open, due to Chopin dying. May he rest in peace.

Sorry to bore you about such details.
May we serve and achieve.

With lots of love,
Sir Harlequin

P.S. Oh, and before I send this out to be sent to you all, Merry Christmas my fellow Violet Carsons.

------------------------

Dear Love,

Harlequin just promoted me to becoming a Clover!
This is so exciting. For the first time in my life, I may get to see Harlequin face-to-face! I know I may be idolizing him, but still.

I'm to get my first briefing on my first mission tomorrow!
Wish me luck!

Oh, and Shadwell said hello and that he'd "be droppin' in anytime on ya"
I still don't get why he has the accent and you don't.

Oh well.
Love,
O'Malley

A Violet On My Ritz - 0.5: No one is going to forsake anyone

Ladies and gentlemen.
Boys and girls.

The government has decided to ignore my advice.
Sadly enough, I think the sarin joke is getting a bit old. So we'll try something new.

'Something new?', you ask. 'What other joys could you bring to us, dear Harlequin.'

And I say: 'Young men, young women. There are other arts than just poison handling. Oh, yes, there's painting and the sort.

But young men and young women,
There's more to art.'

You wouldn't have understood that.
Why? Because our lovely MPs have shielded you and I from this true art.

Bastards.

My head is getting sore. My fingers are getting numb.
Good thing we're ending this whole show soon enough.

My crew is getting injured. The players on the show are getting shot at,
And you people, the audience just sit there and never participate.

I'm not a mad sort of person.
But, honestly.

Sometimes I think why I even wonder.

So we shall finish this all for once.
Either the government dies and I bring peace.
Or the government dies and I bring peace.

What's the difference?
Well, the latter option doesn't involve you surviving.

Thank you for reading, dear people of New London.
Possibly for the last time will you need to hear my rants.

Lots of love and hope and laughter,
Sir Harlequin.

Oh, forgot to mention. For anyone barely following this story, that was the final edition. Considering after a while, A Violet On My Ritz has finished here.

Thanks for reading,

Artemis.

P.S. Expect an entirely new series soon. Nothing related to Faustford, unfortunately.

Well Artemis, I've never replied to any of your Faustford series (mainly because I was too busy catching up) but I must say, all three parts are so very unique and different, different even than any story I've read in quite a while. You leave very much to the pure imagination of the reader, while still progressing the story ever so slightly as to let the world know that the end is coming. Bravo Sir Artemis, bravo.
