I had a couple of questions regarding the anime vs. the manga...nothing spoiler-like, just details.
1) What chapter is the anime up to in the manga?
2) Is there a lot you miss if you don't read the previous ones? (Besides dialogue, better fights, etc.)
Thanks for you help!

Yeah you will miss few things if you will not read the manga from the beginning. and few things were changed in anime and i think it were changed for worse. if you want to start reading manga better start in the beginning. I asure you that you will become addicted to it:)

Episode 59 covered up to and including Chapter 167, so if you started from there you'd be starting at 168.
There is sometimes quite a bit more detail in the Manga than in the episodes, which is ironically one of the reasons I'm looking forward to the fillers if they do come, so that we can get some more details like what the various squads actually do and stuff like that.

There isn't that much detail on that in the manga either. I should know because I moved onto the manga, when my rfriend who gave me the anime, gave me some manga as well. So addictive and frustrating (but great too)!
Also, they have some anime flashbacks that never happened or weren't as detailed in the manga. Some are good and some are not so good.

But there are some falshbacks in anime that are much shorter than in the manga. Like Tousen's flashback about his girlfriend.
Btw, there won't be more than 2 fillers, probably 1, before each episode.
The producer specifically said that he wouldn't release fillers in blocks like Naruto, etc.
