Is Gintama a widely known show? I ask this because it was somewhat easy for me to find characters for this show for my fandub project.

I was just watching this, got up to episode 5. Its pretty hilarious, but now it seems like it is getting into a storyline.

It looks like Shinsen has it subbed up to ep 24, then Rumbel has up to 59. In Japan they are up to ep 107, so the subbers have quite a bit of work to do.

It is an ongoing series, so the amount of eps is unknown.

Its one of Rumbel's 3 projects, so I would say they will most likely sub it on a consistant basis, but they are a ways behind the raws. Im going to cue myself up with it, its fun to watch and 60 eps is plenty of story.

Its sort of a comparable anime. Shounen like this drag on until the manga ends, but I dont read the manga of this show so I dont really know. I am sure just like in any long series there are arcs, so you can stop watching at the end of any arc if you feel like it.

Personally, I love that show is random and hilarous and yet, in some episodes it has good stories.

and hmm... I did know that Gintama has more episodes but... 107??... rumble just subbed episode 59 ;_;... but oh well, this is a good arc and is really insteresting, so is not that bad.

Anyway... this one smight not be as popular as Bleach or Naruto but... I know that maybe I shouldn't say this in this place but meh... the quality of Gintama is better *hides*

LOL! That guy is one of my favorite characters as well. In fact, all three of the Shinsengumi are my favorites.

I can only begin to imagine how complex it must be for fansubbers to translate this series, primarily because of how many jokes, puns and the like related to Japanese culture are constantly being thrown.

i think rumbel is doing more work for not such a good reason. It's rather providing top quality sub.

True, but as you keep watching more anime, you learn these things and eventually you are able to recognize the jokes more readily. And its always nice to see why it was supposed to be a punchline and your not laughing.

If I dont get the joke immediately, im not gonna laugh. Kinda the reason why I didnt like Lucky Star.

I got to know Japanese culture from the many anime I watched. So when I watch the comedy anime that rag on certain things, I usually know whats going on. I understand 95% of Gintama's jokes, but Lucky Star on the other hand was less than half. They had so much Japanese culture punchlines that you would either have to live in Japan, or be an even bigger Otaku than me, or both. I cant say its bad, its just that the culture barrier is a bit too much.

lol, this anime is great, I kind of keep it high on my priority list to watch. Its one of the better episodic comedies that I havent already finished yet. I was disappointed with its episodic nature at first, but I learned to enjoy it a lot after a while/

Yea, they can, like Mushishi, xxxHolic, GITS, etc. But my favorites are usually ones that have storylines, those are the ones that can really suck you in. Like right now im watching Full Moon wo Sagashite. I would have never expected to like it (I gave the first ep a chance to see what it was about), but I just got totally hooked.

As of now, they are the only ones i know of who are subbing it. I know they are slow, but so far I dont really foresee them dropping it. I do wish somebody faster would come along and sub them though, being this far behind with a somewhat popular show is kind of uncalled for.
