Not sure if this was a topic before, but I tried to do a search and didn't see it pop up. If it was, I am sorry.
Anyway, I was wondering what do you take when you catch a cold?

Nothing! I just stay warm and rest. I havent taken any kind of pills for years, so I hope that helps me.

When I have a cold, I usually make hot cocoa or Ramen.
Then just put my face over the steam
if it's really bad, I use vapor rub & drink tea with honey (don't really like tea :P)
If I have somewhere to go, I buy a pack of halls & kleenex

I <3 tea. >.>
If you've got a sore throat: Herbal Tea with lemon and honey is good.
I sometimes even throw a halls in my tea to help with sore throat/coughing.
Otherwise, I lay in bed, take nyquil to knock out.
But yeah, drink plenty of liquids and get some rest and try to stay out of cold weather as much as possible.
Feel better. : )

Halborange Vit C pills... 1000% RDA...
:D perfect to help get rid of it, then i normally take a Lemsip thingy with honey to sweeten it a bit, then i take a bunch of other stuff, can't member what they're all called... (Checked wit doc that they don't clash.) Then get on with everything as usual, normally because of the quantity i don't feel unwell, but i hate it when my nose feels like its dripping...
urgh...
I also hate in the morning, when you cough lots and you get that solid lump of stuff...

That's interesting, because i was taught in chemistry that numerous studies have shown Vitamin C is ineffective as treatment or prevention againt colds. Basically, a widely used placebo. I also believe that your body only absorbs a certain amount of vitamin C, regardless of how much you give it. I don't know what the side effects would be (if any- as it may just leave the body as waste), but i doubt taking lots would be good for you. :)
I take aspirin... which seems to cure my sore throat, to an extent, without the horrible taste of a strepsil.

Thanks everyone for you tips. I figured out that I was having an allergic reaction to some flowers I put in my room. We have them growing all around the house and never bothered me before, but the moment I bring them in my room and I get sick. Go figure.

Something akin to food poisoning I think, a friend of my bf's drank 3 litres of pinapple juice and was violently sick. Yes that's right you can actually OD on vitamin C!
As for getting rid of a cold....well, you can take echinacea just before...it kind of makes sense and kind of doesn't. If you can spot the signs early on (like for me I get a acid almost burnig sensation in my throat) then take the echinacea it should lessen the cold considerably.
I take a hot bath or shower.
Other than that, a lot of rest. I usually get over my cold in one or two days, so I just bear with it if I have it.

I switch from Darjeeling and Chai to Mint and chamomile tea with honey in it, and the best thing ever for a cold/sore throat are zinc lozenges. Speaking of my throat has been killing me all day and I need one.
