Contest 64 - “The Extraordinary Adventures of Captain X”

Greetings from Central 46 and welcome to the first Gotei contest of the summer. The ladder system has been reset and the scoring system changed, there is a new prize system since the removal of vbux and we’re hoping to introduce a wider range of contests. We hope you enjoy it.


Description

+Division Captains are NOT allowed to participate directly in this contest, though they may delegate work and submit the final piece. This is so we can actively assess the participation and effort put in by members of your team.

The members of each division must write a short fantasy story about an extraordinary day in the life of their division and its Captain. You can include as many/few division members as you wish, writing about an event inside the team, a battle against hollows, the journey to magical ice cream – the choice is yours. Try to make it unusual and exciting. The Captain should be the protagonist of the piece and it should be between 1000-3000 -words long.

To ensure teamwork at least 4 members must be involved in its creation. If one person creates the entire story then the team will be failed. When submitting please include the names of the authors. Work together!!!

Prizes

Based on the new system, both ladder points (LP) and gold (G) are awarded to teams who participate. Gold can be used to buy items from the new Bleach Project Shop (http://forums.bleachportal.net/showthread.php?t=59058), whilst ladder points are accumulated to determine your teams overall ranking. Since I didn't write up this contest, I only assume that it's your division members, not Bleach divisions. Either way, it's only something that you can do, not at all required. Other than the requirement that your Captain must be the protagonist, everything else is fair game.

In case you guys misunderstand. The suggestion of 1 paragraph per person is only a suggestion. The main goal is to have at least 4 members participate. How they participate is solely up to you guys. I'm removing that part from the contest description so people don't mistaken it as a requirement.

I'm an amateur writer at best, but even I know that a good story needs AT LEAST a thousand words. I suggest you open up the limits to around 1000-1500 words. It'll make people's lives a lot easier.

I actually agree with you, but I think then we'd get complaints about 1000+ being too long and becoming too serious and competitive. 500-750 isn't too short, still a good 2.5 pages double spaced. Besides, character development isn't necessary imo.

1000-1500 is nowhere near too long. That's two pages, single spaced, at the most. I can read 3000 words in ten minutes...we only have 13 divisions. If 1000-1500 is the limit, it'd probably take five minutes to read each entry, which would total out to 65 minutes to read all of them at most.

If the C46 doesn't want to devote 65 minutes to reading, well...that's sad.

Although if the stories are absolute shit, I wouldn't blame them. :|

A word limit of 500-1500 is no different from a word limit of 1200-1500. The difference in quality is obvious between something of 500 words and something of 1500 words. In which case, everybody who care would write something around 1200-1500.

I guess rather than ask for a story, we're asking for perhaps an excerpt?

However, I'm counting 3 complaints about the length requirement as of now. If I get another 7 complaints within the next 30 hours, I will up the length requirement to something more "appropriate", and the deadline will be extended one day. Otherwise, everything stays the way it is.

I expect to have the results out by next Wednesday most likely. Many of the C46 members are inactive atm and it should take a bit of time to judge. I will likely impose a judging deadline for Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm going to refrain from the "Leecher" penalty this time, since it's the first contest right after the new system. However, I'd like everyone to know that I am serious about imposing the penalty.

That's often the case, as the result of not enough time being spent. I always have that problem when I have to write a paper or lab report. 7 days for a written work of this size is actually quite tight, which is one of the reasons the initial word limit was 500-750. However, since people wanted it to be longer, I assumed that they were willing to spend the extra time on the longer piece.

Frankly I dont care about college students. I trained my typing speed when I was younger. And I also don't care if you believe me or not. It's no big deal to me.

I've been told by a doctor to slow down my typing, took a freestyle test infront of him, becuz I don't hold my hands "in the right position" which is causing my carpel tunnel. So this is my final remark in the matter. So believe me or believe you lil "fact" I couldn't care less

In my opinion, the inclusion of Bleach elements hurt your story. It brought in unnecessary aspects, such as Captains and Hueco Mundo/Seireitei when your story doesn't have much to do with them.

There was no set grading criteria, just opinions, but consistent opinions.
