View Full Version : Organ donation?

since 1967 organ donation has been widely aknowledged as a success. At the moment people sign up to be an organ donar and on your death the organs you gave consent to give away are taken from your body and given to who ever might need them. Firstly what do you think about it, would you become an organ donar? Also do you think it is right to change the natural course of death?
Secondly there has also been some talk about assumed donation, unless you state otherwise your organs will be up 4 grabs :D
I personally am an organ donar, i like think if i can't help anyone else at least after my death i can bring life to others :D

I think organ donation is a noble cause. I definitely approve. However, I don't agree with the whole idea of if you don't say one way or the other, that your organs are just up for grabs. I don't have it on my driver's license or anything that I'm a donor either. Instead, I've informed my family of my decision. That way they'll know and be able to inform the doctor. That's because I'm a little particular about what organs I'm willing to donate. Like i won't donate my eyes.

I think this is a good cause, I fully agree with it. However, I got my "donor"-thingie list send to me a few months ago, its abit creepy to fill in imo ;p, I don't want to spend too much time thinking what would happen with my organs if I'm dead.
And like Pyramus said, I wont be needing them after this life anyway. =)

As far as I'm concerned, after I die my body is just a sack of flesh anyways, so if someone else can get some good out of it that's fine by me. With most people, it seems there are only really two main issues with organ donation. Some people spiritually/religiously don't want their bodies to be mutilated or whatever, and thats fine, people are entitled to their own beliefs. The other is that people are afraid doctors will see "organ donor" and not work as hard to try and save them since there is always a need for organs. This is almost entirely false. The few doctors that would ever actually think this way probably aren't going to make it in the profession, and most of the time doctors are so scared of being sued they are going to do everything in their power to save your life.

I'm an organ donor. It's on my driver's license. I figure, why chuck the entire car if some of the parts are still good? If you ask me, it's wasteful, and I like the idea of still being able to help people after I'm gone.
Of course, they might not be able to use my liver once I'm done with it :p

Agreed. Organ donation is a cause worth supporting.
I too have informed my loved ones of my choice to be an organ donor after my death. After all, there is no greater gift than the gift of life. (On a more cynical note - what have you got to loose? If your DEAD?!):Haha

I'm an organ donor. But, it has nothing to do with morality. See, I want to live forever. and the way I see it, if they stick my heart (doubtful, I smoke) or my liver, or kidney into some dude I am still alive...kind of. And therefore, I calim partial ownership of his organs as well. And then, hopefully he is an organ donor too...rinse and repeat, I am immortal. Or maybe I'm just a nice guy. Who knows?

Wooow, I hadn't thought it that way. Cool :D
Though I doubt the organs can take more than 2 lifetimes...
Anyways, I'm totally supporting organ donations. It's like giving your old clothes tp UFF or something... You don't need them anymore, so why not help the ones in need?

I support organ donations...
I'm a donor it's on my Driver's license... If I die and anything can be used for good they can have it...LOL it will be my luck they use it for research...lol
Edit: Ok hmmm.longer post...I didn't realize..sorry...
I know of people in my past who have benefited greatly from organ donations...and of people who could have but there just wasn't any matches to be found...How do you tell your child, mom, dad, sister,or mother sorry but I'm not going to share something I have when I die that could save your life?
In the future my youngest son may be such a beneficiary...
He is a type 1 diabetic and currently taking several shots a day to try and control blood sugar levels.Currently there is no cure and this can be fatal if uncontrolled.
I just recently found out that testing is going on with rats that have type 1 diabetes and they are trying to do transplants...
If successful just imagine how many children's lives could be saved...At one time it was considered to be a death sentence and still can be fatal if not taken care of properly...
I have my own health issues and if by studying what I have can be useful in determining a way to save others then I would gladly give my organs and is why I have decided to so easily..I have lived a full life and If I could just help one person I will.

I want longer posts please, three lines just saying you support organ donations isn't debating.

I am an organ donor, because you don't really need your organs after you die. So rather than having them rot away, why not give them away to save another life. It seems like a noble cause, unless your religion says other wise.

I'm an organ donor for the same reason as Do'Urden. Yeah, sure, in an interview I'd probably say it was because I'd want to help people when I'm gone, but the truth of the matter is that I'm a very survivalistic person. Whatever way there is for some part of me to continue on, I'm going to take it. I'm not going to call it a kind of immortality (that term has spiritual meaning to me) but more another way of carrying on my DNA. Sure it's not as efficient as having young, and I'm fully aware that it's life expectancy (pun not intended) is short, but any amount of time is a good amount of time.

This is a classic example of a post that is too short - it's very common, so I'm not picking on you, I just want to exemplify what *doesn't* count as debating here.
Try to keep posts a bit longer and actually engage in debate - right now what we can see is a sort of "ships passing in the night" debate.

Australian law dictates that you can only fully become an organ donor at 18 years of age.
You can sign up for the registry at 16.
Which means in a few more days, I'll be signing up to place my name on the registry.
I'm religious, and really, I doubt that God would disapprove. Using 'God' from a Protestant Christian perspective.
The whole jazz in the book of Revelation regarding out bodies and such,
Personally, I don't find that a worthy reason not to donate.
To give our life to others is what Jesus preached.
And this is one the finest ways to do as he said.
And apart from the religious side,
I see no wrong in it. In both a religious and atheist view, when I die, I won't be using my body. Why not let others have the chance to use it?
I've signed the forms for the donation membership.
I'll be giving my kidneys, heart, lungs and liver.

I signed up for it.. upon death. I recently died, but thank God no one received my organs... Do you know how heavy an organ can be... Yamaha Clavella's weigh at least 110 lbs... lols...

^Agreed. In some places, they take the organs out of you before you pronounced clinically dead... like after a crucial car accident or something... and your chances of living are very very critical/slim.

I am surprized no one has taken the position of "Anti-Donation" .. wvwn just for the saake of debate ... sofar all i've seen is::
>Organ donation, good/bad? imo good
>imo good too
>i'm a donor
>no wayz me 2
Sure its a noble cause... and Im dead and cant use them ... But they're mine.
Why should I give up what I was given at birth to someone else...
There is no garentee that your 'donation' will actually help anyone either...
Its better to 'go' in the same biological state you 'arrived'
In some places, they take the organs out of you before you pronounced clinically dead... like after a crucial car accident or something... and your chances of living are very very critical/slim.Well when that happens its usually agreed upon by family and someone who has the legal right to make that decision if the dying person is not in a state to answer (like you'd be in a state to answer"can i take your liver" while your critically injured and on the outs...)
I'll have to look for the evidence but I'm sure people have been harvested for their organs against their will though
(for the record, I'm a register organ donor, and I've taken this position for the sake of debate.)

Well ,i donīt have any idea how i am going to die.If i get cancer or another desease it is impossible to donate something because that illness destroys all organs but if i die for other reasons and my organs are ok i will donate them.
I donīt like the idea that my body will be eaten by worms,so i think the best thing to do is donate and safe another life.

But what about the new life you will have single handily stopped from creating. I mean those critters that would dine on those missing organs might not make it.. and there by the animals that would eat them might have to go malnourished and then the animal would eat that one... well you get the general idea right?

I personally can't see why anyone wouldn't be an organ donor. If you're not going to use them, why be selfish when you could change someone's life forever? All you need is to say yes to a simple question at the DMV and you could save a life.

... I give up .. there is just no way to be against this and not look like a total ass .. as i said in my first post..(for the record, I'm a register organ donor, and I've taken this position for the sake of debate.)
I am a donor and I support the program this is not a debate and should not be in this section...
My suggestion is to move it to the lounge....
