I am a con artist.
I know the secrets to this trade.
But a few broken hearts,
Is certainly not professional material.
I am surely capable of so much more,
If I smile just right,
Just keep myself fresh.
There’s no need for anything
More than cliché conversations.
If she thinks I’m the next big thing,
Then why tell her different?
All the problems are hers,
And I’m untouchable.
The game could be easier,
If she doesn’t even know,
She is playing.
She thinks I’m in love.
I’m just building foundations,
To steal from below her,
When the timing is right.
Just when she thinks she is safe,
Convinced that all the happiness,
In the world is made for her.
That’s when I’ll strike,
Hard and fast,
Straight to the heart.
The happiness becomes pain,
And the sun no longer shines,
On her naive little existence.
Then her world is just like mine,
And my misery has one more companion.
You call me a monster,
I do not disagree,
But I was not born this way.
No child wants to grow up
Just to be this cold.
Somewhere along the road,
The sunlight,
That made my life worth living,
Was replaced by a sinister gloom.
It infected me slowly,
Now it’s devoured me.
There are reasons behind it all,
But I can’t be fixed,
So they stay in the past.
Dead and buried,
Along with the innocence,
I enjoyed in my youth.
Now I’m transfixed,
On killing the dream,
That I could never achieve.
The fatalities in my wake,
Are a testament,
To my devotion to the cause.
I won’t concede to honesty,
I’m the very best at my game.
I’ll never stop,
Even if it destroys me,
And I end up underground.
This is what I am.
There is nothing else
I know the secrets to this trade.
