My brother was skurfing the net late afternoon and came across a news story about my favor cartoon the smurfs being made into a movie. First I was over joy that a new generation of fans will see why so many love these little blue creatures. However, I did some rethinking because holllywood never done really good job bring well-know favors to big screen very well except for iron-man. I just hope the writes don't make the well-belove smurfs first and hopefully last movie into really big flop.

This sounds as great as the idea to do a Thomas the Tank Engine movie.
Seriously, they need to leave these things alone. Classic cartoons are classic for a reason, because they are so good they need to be butchered and turned into a movie. How many people who actually watched The Smurfs wants to sit through a 90 minute movie of little blue people saying smurf every other word.

My gosh, that sounds like torture ^
To be honest, I've never liked the smurfs, so I'm definitely not looking forward to this movie ;___;

I don't really understand the reasoning behind this. Smurf's was/is for little children, but there is much cooler stuff out there for them these days, I doubt if much of them would still be interested in the Smurf's...
And the people who used to watch it are probaly too old to see a Smurf movie. I am atleast. ;p

Rumoured to star John Lithgow... could be interesting. I was never a huge fan of the cartoon, but i did manage to see a lot of the episodes and i thoroughly enjoyed slaughtering them on a once popular MUD.

Has it finally happened? Has Hollywood's well of "totally crap ideas" run dry, forcing them to sink even lower?
Honestly, what is the film industry coming to? The smurfs was a much loved cartoon back in the previous millennium and (in my opinion) would not find the same warm welcome from kids today. The world of children's entertainment has become way more developed and varied.
I agree that it would be a bad idea to migrate it to the big screen. Let old classics be what they are supposed to be - a loving memory of childhood.

This movie sounds like a disaster. Seriously, I agree with all of you, they should leave the classics alone, not turn it into an atrocity that nobody will enjoy.
Is this going to be a live movie? I bet you it is, man that will suck even more.

I used to watch the smurfs all the time as a kid but this movie sounds bad.
IMO the speed racer movie looks HORRIBLE. Though I haven't seen it and people tell me its good. But I just don't see how it can be as good as the classic.

There was a Thomas the Tank Engine movie... it stared Alec Baldwin (no really)

As for the Smurfs movie... eh doesn't sound like a good idea. Why can't Hollywood come up with original ideas?
