This first episode is only 5 minutes long, just to briefly set up the story. I thought every episode was going to be this short (kinda like how Chi's Sweet Home is only 3 minutes per episode), but I've heard it will be normal length after this.

Fanatical government says no to chocolate and tooth decay, and the local confectioners are forced to sell government developed healthy "sweets" in place of sugary treats. Oh, and the feds can control your TV, adding a nice Orwellian twist to the propaganda.

As for the sub group: Typeface choice was nice, no glaring Engrish in the actual translation. Video quality could have been better (note: I was watching the MKV). Noticable color banding in the nighttime scene, I hope they read up on filters to use in encoding to avoid that in the future.

So this short episode thing is normal operating procedure for the entire series.

Does the short story style of it do any justice (like, does it capture enough information per episode like Tweeny Witches, or makes no sense like that Gag Manga show)?

I'm not familiar with either of those shows you just mentioned.

It seems too early to tell, since it isn't apparent how deep the story will become. I haven't seen the third episode yet, but I feel this show could be a lot more if it was given normal length episodes. We've jumped from a setting up the characters episode to skulking around a mine for clues so far.

Our two boys stumble into a secret party the chocolatiers are holding, but they are welcomed since a classmate is among them. The guests were all hiding under the table, afraid they were the Chocolate Police.

Then, in a twist that I knew would happen, the Chocolate Police are spotted outside on the security cameras.

I still think the length of this show is ruining it in multiple ways, but seeing how each ep is only five minutes, I'm going to keep watching it. No reason not to, really. It's certainly not a bandwidth hog and the art is nice.

I can't even remember what happened in the first 3 episodes. It's too short to remember. But I'll keep watching it too. I'm not sure if I should really count it as an anime though.

i thought i was downloading some wrong stuff when i saw the file size, first time i've ever heard of short 5 min episode anime...
i'll just dl it seeing as it should be pretty fast ><

Just an update here:

Dats is blaming a lack of raws on why they haven't been any more releases for Chocolate Underground, and just when they started to get some from a friend in Japan who was doing caps for them already, Zero Raws started releasing some again.

But some of them were in a really wonky WVC format and so quality will be mixed in some of the new epsiodes, but they will have some out soon is the point.
