My Socials teacher had an advanced viewing of the movie. She said it was the best movie she has seen. The subject of the movie seems to be controversial since it is about two gay men but from what I can see...that critic reviews are almost all perfect(mostly A's, 10/10, 5stars and such.... I'm considering watching this movie over King Kong. Anyone else going to see it?

I havent heard much about it, cept reading funny Boondocks comics in the newspaper (grandpa thought it was a "manly" movie). Dunno if I'd see it or not.

i've heard it's really good and they do a wonderful job on taking a a very short story and expanding it on screen. i want to go see it. it seems controversial because it is dealing with homosexuality, and the interesting thing is that the two main characters are cowboys--the epitome of manliness. this gives one room to think differently about people that are homosexual. it shows that people in the gay community are more than just the effeminate stereotypes usually portrayed on screen.

It makes me laugh that a movie about homosexuality is deemed controversial. I don't know if it reflects the times we live in but there are far more weighty issues I think.

I am SO ready to see this film. Controversy or no controversy.

Jake Gyllenhaal is fantastic. And I know that's extremely superficial, but I can't help myself. The four main characters are played by fabulous actors and actresses:

Heath Ledger
Jake Gyllenhaal
Anne Hathaway
Michelle Williams

I dont think I will see this movie. I looked at the summary of the movie and it looks too much like a chick flick and doesnt spark my interest. It seems the reason its so big right now is because its the first homosexual movie that has famous actors in it.

Yahoo: "An epic love story, set against the sweeping landscapes of Wyoming and Texas, that tells the story of two young men--a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy--who meet in the summer of 1963 while driving cattle on a mountain range. They unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love. "

Ah, I hate to disagree. What about The Birdcage? Is Robin Williams not famous enough for you? =(

And the reason why it's so popular isn't just because of the actors in it. I mean, the short story practically blew away The New York Times, right? And Ang Lee is a pretty sharp director.

Why wouldn't it catch a bit of attention?

I don't trust anything The New York Times says. But I agree with the previous poster, love stories aren't my cup of tea, much less ones involving two men.

How about Philadelphia way back in 1993?
