A Beautiful Struggle
What was it all worth?
What was the point?
The old earth is gone
A new one was born.
Here in the midst of the night,
Men have fallen
I am the last one
Happiness doesn't last long,
there won't be better days,
hope has all but dissipated
and what it means to be
human beings with it.
Only I remain
frightened and
fighting for survival.
Carl Baptiste, aka, Chi
The wedding had been beautiful.
Even in this world of chaos our one village had managed to recreate one of the oldest traditions, marriage.
It was a strange feeling...having someone in my life...not just playing a part...but actually being a part of me, my better half.
Quietly I rolled over and peered at my bride that lay next to me, and smiled, I was happy.
Some of the men in the village had decided that two single beds weren’t good enough for a married couple and as a wedding gift they had made the bed we now shared. The women of the village had supplied the mattress and the covers. The whole village had pulled together for everything the two of us now owned.
It was lightening now...time to actually get up but Kendraya had been up most of the previous night so I had no wish to wake her. It took some doing but eventually I was able to creep outside without waking her.
I closed my eyes and sighed. The weather had finally started to get decent and my arm no longer gave me troubles. Dante really had saved my life. Talking of...
My eyes scanned the tree line where I knew he would be standing as guard. Ever since he had taken the poisoned blood from my body he had taken up patrolling the forests for anything that could a danger. I think he was just trying to curb his blood lust. A tinge of guilt stabbed my soul...
“Awake so early Baldax?” Came his new changed voice from the forest line behind me.
I turned and saw him leaning against a tree, looking at me, he had blood all over his face and clothes...again.
“Kendraya was ill again last night. I didn’t want to disturb her just because I could no longer sleep.” I explained ignoring the freshness of the blood.
“It’s her first child. It should be expected. How far along is she now?”
“Must be about three months now...if I have my days right.” I grinned, I still couldn’t believe that I was going to be a father!
“That grin is starting to get annoying, wipe it off of you face and come see what I found.” He turned to look at the rising sun and grimaced, “And make it fast, I don’t have too much more time to be out without suffering for it.”
I hope all my readers see this! Enjoy!

Nice start so far. Just some c&c :)
It was a strange feeling...having someone in my life...not just playing a part...but actually being a part of me, my better half.
Just my opinion, but I believe there are too many " ... " - I tend to use these sparingly. :)
Quietly I rolled over and peered at my bride that lay next to me, and smiled, I was happy.
The last comma should be a full stop :)
I closed my eyes and sighed. The weather had finally started to get decent and my arm no longer gave me troubles.
trouble* No need for "s" at the end :)
My eyes scanned the tree line where I knew he would be standing as guard.
standing guard*
so omitting the "as" works fine :)
taken up patrolling the forests for anything that could a danger
"could a danger" is incomplete.
I turned and saw him leaning against a tree, looking at me, he had blood all over his face and clothes...again.
Underlined area should be full stop :)
wipe it off of you face
Typo, or lack thereof - your* face :)
Hope you do well with this ^^
:o I missed such elementary stuff! Thanks Dec, I'll go fix it up when I get home. Thanks for the CnC.

Heh, well sis, nuff said ^_^
I CANT WAIT FOR MORE!!!
Glad to see the new one's up and going :D
He then turned and melted back into the forest, I followed just as silently.
It wasn’t very far before Dante stood still and lifted his face to the glowing horizon.
“Go on ahead, I won’t be following.” He then turned to another direction and walked off, leaving me shaking my head at his newly developed but crippling weakness.
I followed the tracks the vampire had left during his last hunt until I found what was left of his kill.
I swore under my breath when I noticed the armour the corpse wore, it was one of Kradas’ scouts. For them to have penetrated this deep within our forest meant only one thing...Kradas was ready to take our land for his own...and that meant he was healed enough to fight once more.
I looked over the corpse, its throat was clearly ripped out but the majority of the blood was spilled over the clearing...all over the clearing in fact. I could hear the dripping of the liquid from the leaves all around me.
“Getting a bit rabid, wouldn’t you say?” came a voice from above me.
I looked up, cursing myself for not being more observant, “Azeru! Can’t you approach people in a normal fashion!?”
“Why? It spoils the surprise.” The mutilated Daemon sprang from his perched and grunted in pain as the metal in his lower limbs dug into living flesh.
I shook my head and turned back to the corpse, I wasn’t willing to believe that Kradas was quite ready to attack us...not so soon after we just about destroyed his camp.
“You look worried little cat...” Azeru limped towards me.
“This is a scout.”
“Out here? In this part of the forest?” Azeru looked around him, “But to reach here you need to go over the wall and that’s not possible, not with our guards!”
I knelt next to the corpse and inspected the armour, it was in pretty bad shape with dents, scraps and rust.
“Hold on...” Azeru knelt next to the body, “He’s a deserter.”
“What gave it away?” I asked sarcastically though secretly I was relieved that we were safe for a little bit longer.
He threw me an evil look, “If it wasn’t for the fact that I owe you my life I would have handed you to Kradas myself to gain my honour back.”
“And he would promptly kill you.”
“You’re probably right.” He laughed and climbed painfully back to his feet, “Now that this little heart attack has been cleared up perhaps we should start discussing a leash for your fanged friend?”
“I will not put a leash on Dante, he has done nothing wrong...”
“Yet. What if this unfortunate soul here was trying to reach you to join our little rebellion?”
“Dane would not just kill anyone.”
“Oh? That’s what you think. Where we are all little kittens trying to survive he is a lion. With or without your leave he will kill whoever he wishes to.” Azeru moved back into the forest, “Just thought I’d make mention of that little fact.”
I was left alone with the corpse, feeling even worse about this whole situation.
“New problem...why is Kradas’ soldiers deserting him?” I turned to the corpse in hopes of getting an answer but those milky orbs held no answers for me.
With no answers and the sickening smell of death finally getting to me I surrendered the corpse to the forest and returned to the village.
The village had come alive now with people going about their business and young children running around trying to do the chores put before them before they were entitled to go play...under the watchful eye of an older sibling or parent.
“Greetings Baldax.” Called Haxzor as he entered the village with a young deer hung over his back.
“Morning, I see you had some luck with your hunting.”
“With Blood Streak all my hunts are lucky.” He grinned and join me, “How’s Kendraya?”
“Ill again but Xenous thinks it’ll pass in time.”
“He still hasn’t returned home? Must be desperate to see that baby born.”
I smiled.
“Dante’s right...that grin is starting to become annoying.” Haxzor shifted the dead weight on his back, “Well wish your wife well. Miguel will skin me alive if I don’t have this dressed for the feast tonight. You didn’t forget did you?”
Enjoy
Winter’s end feast, how could I forget? Miguel had been insistent that we start traditions in our village, something for morale for those that weren’t becoming soldiers to man the wall.
“I didn’t forget Haxzor, the dragons will be there for the fires and cooking of the meat and no...they won’t burn the meat. You do realise that this is slightly demeaning to them?”
“Well there is no need for them to go out there today so why not let them do some work here?” He rolled his eyes to the giant wall and shifted the weight of the meat again, “Just make sure they’re there, people have gotten use to them now. The people like to see their guardians among them.”
“But they cringe when Azeru comes into the picture?”
“Do you blame them?” he laughed, “I am dying slightly under this beast. I will see you later at the feast.”
He then left me to continue to Miguel’s house so that the two of them could prepare the meat. Those two had gotten even closer since the wedding, not that they had had much choice, it was forced upon them by my wife. I chuckled as I thought back to the day when she had surprised us with her pregnancy.
“What...?” I managed to stutter before realising what this all meant, “Oh my god...”
“Excuse me?” Miguel went snow white and turned to me for some sort of explanation.
“I believe what young Kendraya here is trying to say is that she is with child.” Said Gor, over simplifying this huge event, “Well done with the continuation of your species.”
I don’t know who was blushing deeper at this, myself or Kendraya.
Azeru, being who he was, was laughing loudly while slapping me on the back, “Baldax you dog!”
Haxzor looked at me with an all knowing smile and winked at Kendraya.
And here I stood, basically surrounded by everyone else, trying my best not to collapse and gain control of my vocal cords.
“Well? Aren’t you going to say something?” demanded Kendraya.
“Ah...ah...” all the words that I had ever learnt had simply just vanished.
“You’ve gone and done it now Kendraya!” laughed Azeru, “You’ve shocked Fire Soul into silence.”
“Kendraya, are you sure?” asked Miguel stilling looking me straight in the eyes.
“Hmph, of course I’m sure! It’s my body!” she appeared to be somewhat annoyed.
“Shotgun wedding, shotgun wedding!” sang Azeru as he danced around us.
“That’s not sounding like a bad idea at this point.” Agreed Miguel, I swear there were daggers coming from his eyes at that point.
“Oh what a wonderful idea Azeru!” Kendraya grabbed the Daemon and planted a kiss on his cheek which stopped him dead, “It is a good idea isn’t it Miguel?”
“Rather, what do you say to that Baldax?”
To save what dignity I had left at this point I approached Kendraya and took her hand in mine.
“Well here goes nothing.” I whispered but then louder to Kendraya, as I went to my knees, “May I have your hand in marriage?”
I thought she was going to burst into tears at that point but thankfully for my health she didn’t, instead she just about threw herself around my neck and squeezed.
“What a stupid question!? You should know what the answer would be you fool!”
Before anyone could say anything further Haxzor pulled us to our feet and announced, “Right! For there to be a wedding we need to get started. Miguel, as this village’s leader you are to give the ceremony for these two. I’ve decided that I will walk Kendraya down the aisle as a brother.”
He then looked around and his eyes fell on Gor, “You can be Baldax’s best man.”
Gor seemed confused, “A what?”
“You stand with him at the altar and make sure he doesn’t try to run away when he gets nervous.”
“I think I can do that.” The giant Daemon grinned, “You planning on running Baldax?”
“Not a chance, doubt I’d get too far with you on the job.” I squeezed Kendraya’s hand to let her know it was just a joke.
He seemed somewhat disappointed in the fact.
“What about me!?” demanded Azeru, “What can I do?”
Haxzor looked the smaller Daemon up and down and sneered, “You can try and behave?”
“What’s that supposed to mean!?”
“He can be the ring bearer.” Said Miguel stepping in before there was bloodshed.
“And where are we going to find a ring Miguel? It’s not like we have a gold smith or something here.” Said Haxzor.
“We don’t need it.” I said.
“What? No ring? I refuse...” started Miguel.
“Calm down.” I said as I fished the chain I always wore out from under my shirt, “I have the ring right here.”
My first prize in the pit fights, the fight for my life, the stone ring.
“Isn’t that...?” started Gor but was unable to finish.
“Yeah.” I smiled a little, remembering how my life had change because of that one fight.
“What? What?” asked Kendraya confused.
“That ring that your love wears around his neck is proof of his acceptance into our fold.” Said Gor, “He fought for it with his life. You should have seen what he looked like that day. Like a porcupine!”
“So it means quite a lot to you then?” she asked looking up at me.
“Don’t try and get out of this, I want you to have it.”
“Not yet she can’t.” Haxzor pulled the chain up and over my head and then gave it to Miguel, “There is the ring, keep it until the actual day before you give it to Azeru.”
“Why can’t I have it now!?” demanded the Daemon.
“Cause you may get blood on it silly.” Said Kendraya trying her best to stop the heated argument before no one could control it
.
He was about to say something further, and probable vulgar, when Miguel gave him a look .
“Fine, I’ll wait then.” He didn’t seem happy though.
“I suppose the village must be told.” Said Haxzor.
“And we have to get ready for the big day.” Agreed Miguel as he grabbed hold of Azeru, “Shall we get started?”
“A day has been set already? Did I miss something?” Gor scratched at his head, looking more confused than ever.
“Subtlety doesn’t work on you does it big guy?” Haxzor grabbed one of Gor’s arms and started to pull away, “Those two are going to want to be alone for a while.”
“Whatever for?”
“I’m starting to wonder if you’re short a few crayons or if you’re doing this on purpose.”
All four of them left, leaving the two of us alone at last.
“Did I embarrass you with my announcement?” asked Kendraya, blushing slightly.
“Maybe a little.” I admitted, “You were serious right?”
“Of course I was! Do you really think that I would...?”
I silenced that thought with a kiss.
“Of course you were serious. I was just wondering if this might have been your not so subtle way of telling me that you wanted to get married.” I said.
She punched me playfully, not hard but still, then stuck her tongue out at me.
“You do realise that your wedding is going to be taken over by Miguel and Haxzor right?” I put my arm around her and just enjoyed the closeness we shared.
“For now yes...but they will see how I’ll make them jump when it comes closer to the time.” She poked me in the side, “And don’t think you’re going to get out of work. I expect you to cut that wild mop of hair on your head.”
I threw my head back and laughed, “Yes dear.”
“Don’t be sarcastic with me!” she pulled at one of the loose strands of my hair, somehow it had managed to escape earlier capture, “Look at it! It’s a mess!”
“Alright, alright! You win, I’ll tie it back a bit better next time.”
She glowered at me but then a small smile spread over her lips, “I think I could just manage to braid something into it to make it look better.”
“You would not dare.” I pulled her into a bear hug, “I may have to do something to get my revenge.”
“Oh? And what would that be?”
“Don’t push your luck so early.” I released her.
She just grinned at me and I couldn’t help but grin right back.
“So? Besides Haxzor and Miguel do I have to know about any other family members?”
Kendraya went white, “No...there’s no one else.”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine...I just remembered something I had forgotten to do. Excuse me.” She ran off with me staring at her in perplexity.
“Must be a woman thing.”
Haxzor was in full swing of things when I found him later that day. He was trying to convince Grif to carry something for him.
“I am not a messenger pigeon, I refuse.” She lifted her beak as she always did.
“Oh come on you feather bag! This is for Baldax!”
“He will kill you if he were to find out what you were planning on doing!”
“He’ll thanks us!”
“Thank you for what exactly Haxzor?”
“See! Now you’re in for it Twin Blades! Baldax! Baldax! He’s trying to use me...”
“I heard thanks Grif. What’s the problem?”
“I’m trying to get invites out.” Said Haxzor before Grif had half a chance to get a word in.
“Excuse me? Run that by me again?”
“Ooh! Now you’re in for it Haxzor!” sang Grif dancing from one foot to another.
“Well, we’ve got all of Kendraya’s family here, you’re sorta left out. So I figured we might as well invite some people from our village to sit in as your family. The problem is that this fur and feather ball will not fly to them to deliver the message.”
“Let him have it Baldax!” laughed Grif.
“I don’t know what to say Haxzor...” I was utterly stunned.
“What!?” Grif looked furiously at me, “What do you mean you don’t know what to say!? You should be furious that he would assume that you don’t have family here!”
“That’s not what he’s assuming Grif.” I ran my hand along her back, “That was a nice gesture Haxzor. Thanks.”
“How’s it nice!? He said you have no family here! What do I look like!?” if she was human she would be busy balling her eyes out but for now she was hopping between her two front feet.
“Hey calm down there Griffith.” I lock my arms around her neck, “You’re mom treated me like a son when I first met her, taught me everything I know today. That means we’re basically siblings right?”
“Right.”
“So? Kendraya needs a bridesmaid.”
“A what?”
“Someone to make sure she doesn’t run away before the wedding.” I tried to make it as simple as possible for her.
“You humans have strange cultures...”
I released her and pushed her in the direction I had seen Kendraya run off to, “Go find Kendraya and ask her what a bridesmaid does.”
“Is this what humans do?”
“This is what little sisters do. Now get out of here before I start picking prime feathers for a quill.”
She gave a squawk of defiance and took to the air in a gust of downdraft.
“You want to go through the names?” asked Haxzor.
“I’m sure you’ve got it under control.” I smiled, “Thanks again.”
“Sure, any time! We have a problem though...who are we going to send now?”
We had ended up sending Alpha as he was the only other creature we had that the other village would recognise without the villagers completely freaking out and trying to kill him.
“I never asked Haxor...for when did you decide to have the wedding?”
He looked to the evening sky and frowned, “Must be in about two weeks time.”
I look up and see nothing, “And you’re looking to the sky why?”
“Well I figured the ceremony will last most of the day and partially into the night. Wouldn’t it be better if it were full moon so that we wouldn’t have to light up too many fires.”
“Since when were you a romantic at heart?” I was starting to really get impressed with the many faces that Haxzor wore.
“Mother’s influence I guess. Anyway, can’t have you marry Kendraya without some style now can I?”
“You are spoiling her you know that?”
“Hey! I think I’m playing the role of big brother rather well here don’t you?”
“A bit too well, playing a bit of mother as well.”
He punched me hard in the chest...I deserved that I guess.
“Stop grinning already! It’s getting on my nerves!”
It made me just grin broader and he snorted in disgust, “You lot just better appreciate what I’m doing for you.”
I nodded my head and looked to the sky that was empty of a moon, two weeks, was that going to be enough time for Kendraya to get on all out nerves?
If the wait for the day wasn’t the worst it was the guests who arrived early...
Zack was the first to arrive, flying back with Alpha in fact.
“I just had to come myself to make sure the letters spoke the truth. Baldax? Getting married?” he broke out in booming laughter and slapped me across the back, “So then? Is it true?”
“Would you really have come if you didn’t think it was?” I half gasped, trying to recover my breath that Zack had successfully removed from my lungs.
“Possibly not but with the twins and all I really needed the break.”
“Beerya had twins?”
“That’s right! You wouldn’t have known!” he grinned, one I had very much adopted myself, “She had two little babies! A boy and a girl.”
“And...” I was worried about asking the next question as it was plaguing my mind since Kendraya had told me she was pregnant, “Has your blood had an effect on the children?
His grin dropped a little, “The girl seems to be normal, the boy however...”
“What’s wrong with the boy?”
“Xenous delivered both of them...you know that?” he was avoiding the question.
“No.”
He looked at me hopelessly, all signs of his grin was now gone, “He says it would have been better if the boy hadn’t been born alive.”
I remained quiet and waited for the inevitable news.
“Xenous had warned us of the possibility of something going wrong, considering that both Beerya and myself are Hybrids. But since we lost our first children we...wanted more...it’s not an unfair request is it?”
“Not at all friend.”
“So when the little girl was born, we called her Grace by the way, Xenous was pleased to announce that she inherited nothing from our Daemon side, I was thrilled! But the boy...Joshua, he’s nearly fully Daemon, looks like a cross between those tiger and lizard Daemons.”
I winced, unfortunately I could imagine that breed of Daemon...I had seen it in the past. I felt the colour drain from my face...would my child turn out this way?
“Black scales cover his humanoid body, with fur covered feet that look like tiger’s paws...he even has a tail...with white stripes! And he’s so weak...we’re still having trouble feeding him but Beerya loves him, she will do anything for him.”

Heeeeey, Welcome back Lex.
Good to see Baldax is back. I like that line Gor said, "Well done with the continuation of your species." Got some lulz... Sorry it took me so long to check out the new story been sorta busy with RL.
Hey welcome back Gartz! Nice to have you on board again! Thought you might like that little quote, I thought it was pretty funny myself.
“How old are they now?”
“A little older than a month. Grace has at least doubled in size, Joshua...remains the size he was when he was born.”
“Feeding them on Beerya’s milk?”
“Of course! All out children where raised that way!”
“Have you thought perhaps that it isn’t the best feeding medium for Joshua?”
“What else could you possible feed to a baby?!” he wildly gestured in the air.
“Come with me.”
I took him through to where the Daemons made their camp, for they had no wish to live in a human settlement, their loss I suppose.
“General Baldax.” Saluted one Daemon whose name I couldn’t recall at that moment.
“Greetings. I need word with Salzoor.”
“What is it you want human?” came the voice in Daemon from a tree and the Daemon dropped from it, he was carrying a brace of rabbits, thin from the winter, “Why do you bring an unknown into our camp?”
“This unknown is called Zack, he is like me, a Hybrid. He comes from the other village.” I dismissed the other Daemon with a wave of my hand.
“And?”
“The regal attitude isn’t one that suits you.” I muttered.
“You’re right!” he laughed and threw the rabbits to the ground, “But it keeps the others in control if you know what I mean?”
“I need your help old friend.”
“How is it that I can offer my services?”
“Zack here and his wife are both Hybrids that have just had twin offspring.”
“My congratulations to you two.” Said the Daemon looking in Zack’s direction.
I looked at Zack, he had gone deathly pale.
“I’ll explain later.” I whispered to him, then to Salzoor, “The one child was born human, not Daemon blood in her, or none that has shown yet. The boy however is a mixture of species of two of the low level soldiers.”
“Oh? Tiger and lizard? Or so you would call them?”
“Yes on both accounts.”
“So what is the problem? Though the combination of blood is horrifying to view the strength is amazing.”
“That is the problem, the boy can’t feed correctly and is weakening.”
“What are you feeding him human?”
“Mother’s milk.” I answered, seeing as Zack was too deeply shocked by the Daemon before us to speak.
“Mother’s milk? And this does nothing for the infant?”
“Nothing.”
“Then perhaps try meat.”
“He’s a baby!” exploded Zack, “How do I feed a baby a piece of steak!?”
“You don’t you dolt!” I nearly laughed as the English word was thrown in there, “Have you ever seen how a wolf pack feeds its pups? The pack goes hunting and they return with meat for the young. They regurgitate the partially digested meat and the young feed off of that. I assume your son has a full set of very sharp teeth, another thing that may prevent your mate from feeding him correctly.”
“You want us to macerate meat for him?”
“It’s either that or add some blood to the milk that he drinks, more than what he’s able to draw from...” he looked at me, “What is her name?”
“Beerya.”
“I don’t think your friend here likes the term ‘mate’ much.” He then turned back to Zack, “You need to introduce more protein into his diet, milk isn’t enough for him. As he gets older you will be able to control his eating habits before he starts running around in the forest like an animal. However, if you do not do as I have advised he will wither away and succumb.”
“We will send Grif to do it. She hasn’t flown to the village for a long time and she could do with the exercise.” I said.
“That she could. Now forgive me but I must eat, the hunt wasn’t worth the energy spent but the fear in those eyes...so exhilarating!” he picked up the brace and continued his way back into the camp.
And right about...
“What the hell was that!?”
...now.
“I’m sure Haxzor didn’t forget to mention our little plan.”
“He told us of the plan yes, but nothing about having Daemons living on your door step!”
I shrugged my shoulders, “They’re faithful to those that lead to them.”
“And when you die Baldax!? Have you thought of that?”
“I wish you wouldn’t fight me on every little thing that has to do with the Daemons.” I groaned, “Just accept that they are here and that they are going to help us. No! I don’t want to argue about this. We need them more than you know.”
Zack wanted to argue but he remained quiet, it was a visible struggle.
Thankfully Haxzor found some work for Zack to do...far away from any of the Daemons and somehow managed to keep him busy for some time. I sent Grif to the village, under a lot of threats of new quill pens, to deliver the advice Salzoor gave.
She stayed there for some time, probably to spite me and this left Zack very edgy.

FINALLY! I caught up ^_^ YAY! Wanna hear more about the wedding! :D
“Do something about him or I will crack.” Said Haxzor after one day after accidently crossing paths with Zack when he had gotten into one of his moods.
“What do you want me to do Haxzor? He’s worried.”
“Well, tell him that if he doesn’t cool his head I will drag him up into the mountains and have a little heart to heart.”
“Don’t be so hard on him. This is his child’s life that we’re talking about.”
He was about to argue but then it dawned on him, “You’re worried yourself aren’t you? But not about Zack’s child.”
I nodded my head, “I’m part lizard Daemon, what if my son or daughter...”
“If anything they will inherit those wings of Sektaar. Don’t worry so much about the future, what will happen will happen, nothing you can do so just don’t think about it.”
“You’re probably right but still!”
“Forget it Baldax, it will only bring pain to you two. Now get out of here before Kendraya sees that you have nothing to do.”
I took that advice and made my way into the forest there I took some time to sit and think of what Haxzor had said. It would be pointless to sit an worry about the child now, there was too much that still had to happen before he/she/it would be born into this chaotic world.
That thought shoved me back to the present and I realise I hadn’t moved since Haxzor had left me barely a few minutes earlier. Shaking my head to clear it of memories I make my way back to my house. It was still early, Kendraya would still be sleeping, or at least she should be after last night.
When I reached the door it was opened from the inside and Xenous came out.
“Is she so ill you had to be called?” I asked.
“Morning to you to Baldax.” He said sarcastically as he placed a satchel on his shoulder, “Your wife is suffering from morning sickness, it’ll pass in time.”
“Seems a little excessive for just morning sickness Xenous. She was up for some time last night.”
Xenous shook his head and looked at me in the eye, “Baldax, you are part Daemon, she is human, the child developing in her is part Daemon through you. Think of it as a clash of blood between mother and child.”
“We aren’t going to lose our baby are we?” I felt my face go pale.
Xenous shook his head, “No, or at least I don’t think so. She must just take it easy and not spend her days in the wilderness with that wolf of hers.”
“Nothing else I can do to make it better?”
“Just being there for her will suffice Fire Soul, the rest you leave to me. Now please, I have work to do but you are in my way and thus are preventing me from going on my rounds.”
I moved out of his way and watched him walk off up the road, wondering where he was going. Tired of guessing I eased myself into the cabin.
“No need to walk on eggshells Jake. I am awake.” Said Kendraya from inside.
“Morning.” I greeted as I pulled the door closed behind me.
I found here sitting up in the bed, her hair fanning out all about her, almost creating a gold and red halo around her head as the morning sunlight caught it.
“Where did you run off to this morning. You left fairly early.”

I took that advice and made my way into the forest...
...I realise I hadn’t moved since Haxzor had left me barely a few minutes earlier.
Bit of a contradiction there sis, but else it's looking good ;)
Thanks, I'll have a look at that!
“You were awake?” I came and sat next to her, “I couldn’t sleep so I didn’t want to toss and turn and accidently wake you.”
“I was awake and actually was thinking the same thing then you got up.”
“You should have said something!”
She looked thoughtful then grinned her little mischievous smile, “If I had we might have gotten a little busy.”
“You are more free with your thoughts about this whole thing than myself aren’t you?” I felt a slight blush rise in my neck.
“Oh you are such a little boy!” she playfully shoved me.
“So what does Xenous say about our young one?” I leaned forward and placed my hand on her distended stomach.
“He doesn’t feel anything out of the ordinary...but since he works mostly with Daemons that worries me a bit.”
“There’s no use worrying about it now.” I tried to feel what Xenous did but felt nothing.
“Mention my weight and I will stab you in the eye.” Said Kendraya before I could make a quip.
Needless I kept my mouth shut but I grinned and for that I got poked hard in the ribs.
“You are horrible Jake Fire Soul!”
“What!? I said nothing!”
“You thought it you pig.” She laughed and I knew I was forgiven, “And your hand is in the wrong place.”
She took my hand and moved, “There...feel it?”
I did feel something...not sure what it was but there was something.
“Xenous says that the child is developing a lot quicker than he thought it would. The child could be here much sooner than we thought.”
“Sooner? How soon is sooner?”
“He thinks by the time spring is finished.”
“Four months!?”
“Don’t get so excited dear, you don’t have to carry and give birth to the young one, what do you have to be worry about?”
I spluttered, trying to remember old school work from years back but then I remembered...my child was going to be part Daemon...and they did not follow the rules of man.
“Exactly.” Stated Kendraya with a grin on her face...and everyone thought mine was a pain.
“How is it that the child amplifies your gifts?” I still hadn’t removed my hand from where Kendraya had put it, I guess I was hoping to feel something I could recognise.

Oops. Didn't realise so much time had gone by... Sorry sis. Looking good as always ^_^
Yay! I have some time to come to CB again!
“Perhaps it has the gift to...I am not sure, it may just be that I finally grew into my powers.” She suddenly grimaced, “I think I need to make up some of that medicine that Xenous left behind.”
“Still feeling ill?” I climbed to my feet.
“A little.”
“Where did he leave it? I’ll make it up for you before I make breakfast for us.”
She threw a pillow at me but missed, “If you’re planning on making breakfast you can go to the wall and eat with Gor, I do not have the stomach for anything cooking in this place!”
I chuckled, “Very well.”
I took a water skin from a hook near the fire and weighed it, “How much water to this medicine?”
“All of that to whatever is in that pouch he left.” She pointed to the door.
There was a small, hand crafted table that Miguel had carved for Kendraya, near the door, on it was a leather pouch.
Retrieving it I opened it and took a smell, recognising some of the herbs, then added it to a small wooden bowl with the remainder of the water in the water skin and placed it in the fire.
“I will need to get some more water, can you keep an eye on the water level while I am gone?”
“I am pregnant Jake not cripple! Of course I can!” she snapped at me.
“Hormones playing around with you again?”
This time the pillow found its mark, I deserved that.
I left the house, water skin in hand, chuckling. She would never know how much I really loved her when I teased her.
My thoughts drifted back to the day we were joined.
“If anything I’m glad I don’t have to wear a suit.” Said Haxzor as we walked through the forest , it was a mere few hours before Miguel was going to start the ceremony to wed Kendraya and myself.
We had escaped into the forest to prevent getting more work and from being under foot.
“You realise you have to contend with your wife after all of this.” Said Haxzor with a grin, “She would have noticed by now that we aren’t in the village.”
“That’s a problem for a later time. For now I’d like to enjoy a few more hours of freedom.”
Haxzor laughed long and hard.
“I wouldn’t laugh if I were you. You may find yourself with a wife soon enough.”
“Not a chance Baldax!”
“You two better not be planning on running away.” Came a voice behind us.
“Not running away Gor.” I said sighing, he had taken his guarding of me very serious, it had actually gotten rather disturbing.
He came out from behind some trees, he still hadn’t changed out of his old uniform, even though it was in tatters.
“You know, Kendray did offer to fix those for you.” Said Haxzor looking the giant Daemon up and down.
“I like these...she threatened to burn them at one point.” His eyes grew wide with fake shock, then slackened with mirth, “She is quite a catch Baldax, you better keep her close or she will be taken.”
I smiled, Gor still thought that we acted like animals when it came to our ‘mates’.
“How is the arm?” he asked.
“It’s better thank you. I can hold my sword again.” I flexed my fingers to show him, “Now it’s just building up all the strength again.”
He nodded his head, “Good. Miguel is looking for you two, something about a fitting...what is that anyway?”
“You went and jinxed it Haxzor!” I exclaimed.
He grimiced, “Somehow your wife got to Miguel...”
Enjoy!

YAY!!! Wedding scene! WEDDING SCENE!!!
Gor had that confused look on his face again, I almost felt sorry for him.
“Basically Gor we have to get new clothes.” I explained.
“What’s wrong with your current clothes? There are no infestations.”
Haxzor shuddered and took a step away from Gor, “Disgusting.”
I chuckled, “We may as well go back before we get dragged back.”
Haxzor walked a wide breath around Gor and headed to the village in what seemed to be a very bad mood.
“Are new clothes so bad?” asked Gor.
I sighed and started to explain to the Daemon what the big deal was with an actual wedding, I still don’t think he got the true meaning behind it but that I couldn’t do anything about.
When we got back into the village Gor made sure I went straight to Miguel’s house and even watched to make sure I entered.
This had to have been Kendraya’s idea...for even Miguel was dressed in what seemed to be a very formal version of what he usually wore.
“Let me guess...Kendraya?”
“I do it to please her.” He said softly with a slight grin, “The bear cloak is slightly heavier than my usual one, I like it.”
I smiled, “She’s got you twisted around her little finger doesn’t she?”
“Of course, but you have to admit that applies to you to.”
“I shrugged my shoulders, “So what is it that I have to wear?”
Miguel swung his Daemon arm out and pointed to a pile of clothes on his bed, “She brought them here during the night while I was out, I found it all this morning...the message was obvious as you can imagine.”
I went to got have a look at the clothes she had brought, as always they would be the perfect size. They seemed similar to the clothes she had presented to me when I first arrived here but with one exception, the cloak wasn’t made of the skin of a bear but instead that of a white wolf. She had taken careful care at curing the hide and brushing the fur until it gleamed, I touched it, it was really soft.
“She did an effort with this.” I breathed in amazement.
“Why wouldn’t she? She loves you. It even matches that monster sword of yours, which by the way is there to.” Miguel patted me on the back, gently, “Just don’t get the cloak dirty in the next few hours.”
“What am I? A five year old!?”
Miguel gave me a look that made me regret opening my mouth in the first place.
“Okay, okay. Getting changed already.” And that was what I did.
And as always she had made the clothes to perfection, enough to make me think she was continuously measuring me...
“That cloak matches your hair.” Said Miguel.
I glared at him, this was too fancy for me.
“What!? It does.” He laughed.
I growled at him, “At least we all have to suffer this together. Talking of...where is Haxzor?”
“He walked off with his clothes a little bit before you arrived here. Guess he didn’t want to share his look with us.” Miguel went to his cupboard where he kept his assortment of teas and started to fix us something to drink.
I had only recently learned that his arm still pained him to this day.
“Something for the nerves.” He explained as he noticed I was watching him, he then went about making it

Hey Lex, know you're busy with school and all. Just checking in on ol' Baldax waiting for the the next chapter to come out.
AH! Someone is reading! Thought everyone had forgotten. New edition up!
I sat down on one of his rough hewed chairs, suddenly realising what was actually going to happen tonight.
“Just hit you?” he placed water into a pot suspended above the fire.
“Rather...glad there was a chair here.” I rubbed my forehead.
Miguel chuckled and started to add the herbs he would need for this particular tea. When it was done he served it and made dead sure I had a firm grip on the cup before he released it, “Drink it now, try not to wait until it has cooled down. This should calm your nerves.”
“Trying to drug me into marrying your daughter?” I tried to smile but failed.
He frowned.
“Sorry...suddenly the nerves hit me.”
“Drink.” He ordered as he sat down in his own chair and started on his own tea.
I looked into the depths of the dark liquid and noticed the ripples in it, was I so nervous that I was shaking? I felt the blush rise in my neck...this was bordering on terror now.
“Calm Baldax. You’ve faced down Daemons, marriage to a human can’t be so stressful.”
I laughed nervously and took a sip of the tea then tried to identify some of the herbs.
“I’m glad that Xenous came here.” Said Miguel, “He knows more about the herbs in this area than I ever will in my life time. It’s been helpful.”
“How is your arm anyway?”
“The pain comes and goes, the cold makes it worse. I am use to it.” He shrugged, “I notice however your arm bothers you very little.”
“I can hold most things now.” I flexed the fingers, “Now it’s time to train again.”
“At least try to enjoy some time with your wife first. Once this war starts who knows when there will be a reprieve.”
I nodded my head, a second knot joined my already knotted stomach...the war against Kradas. I pushed negative thoughts from my head and took in some more tea, willing it to relax my body.
“That is a later issue, I refuse to think of that now.”
“Good man, think happy thoughts.”
I glared at him, “You sound like those little cartoon characters my parents use to make me watch as a kid.”
He roared with laughter until the tears ran down his face, it even put a smile on my face. We spent the rest of the afternoon talking, relaxing in each other’s company, until there was a knock on the door.
We both rose from our seats and went to meet the person at the door. It was Haxzor, dressed in finery that screamed to be mocked but the sight of his twin blades, that never left his side, silenced us both.
“She made me look like a clown...” he groaned, then he got a look at us, “Correction, made us look like clowns.”
“That leather is rare though.” I commented.
Haxzor had been dressed in a jerkin and a pair of pants of soft grey leather of a beast I had only seen once in the old castle. He wore fur trimmed boots, all wolf I guessed, and a grey fur cloak.
“At least I don’t stand out like you Baldax.” He grinned.
I glared at him, my eyes were going to start getting strained if I had to keep glaring at these people. Miguel and Haxzor chuckled.
“Let’s get going before Gor or Grif see us hanging around. Seems to me they are now taking direct orders from Kendraya now.”
I looked to the sky and was shocked to see how the light had vanished.
