Well today I watched this classic anime movie and after a long time not watching it I understanded the movie a more than before , This movie was just so different after not watching it for so long .......... I didnt even remember how it ended but as I watched it was all coming to me again. I didnt remember the gore it was just awesome watching it. It brings back those memorys when my dad and I rented VHS and always returned them late lol.

Give me your thoughts on this classic movie and for those who havent seen it I think you should check it on youtube. (its about demon boars and a guy with a demon cursed mark on his arm that gives him crazy strength but comes with lots of pain.

you can watch it at this link http://youtube.com/watch?v=zDhqFON_it0 :biggrinki

LOL! I love that movie! I've watched all of Miasaki's work, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle.
I love the way he uses colour and his imagination, the guy is a brillent!
I recomend any of these movies to anyone that likes classic anime movies and have about 1.5 to 2 hours free and have nothing else to do with their time.

ffxfreak: you're getting rep from me for this post!

Princess Mononoke (Mononoke-hime) is a gorgeous and amazing film. It may be a bit older, but it is most definitely one of Miyazaki's best films (other than spirited away). The environmental message mixed with amazing story telling and exciting plot have always made me happy since I first saw the film way back when. Joe Hisashi's soundtrack sets a marvelous atmosphere for the film as well/

it's a great movie and one of his best.

i still like laputa the most out of his films for some reason, maybe because of the music.

Thanks Lex for the rep..............yea I really liked the soundtrack for the movie and all Miyazaki's other work was also brilliant if I would have to say myself. His storylines are always good this movie was kinda unpredictable until you get to the ending and then find out whats really going on. Plus this is a movie that you just want to know what happens after to everyone. this movie would have made a amazing mini anime series.

yea the music really create the perfect atmosphere for his movie

It's been a couple or years since I saw it, but I disliked it.

Princess Mononoke is very theme oriented, and we're looking at its main theme of "protect nature and the natural". Both its theme and its art style directs it towards the children and teenager demographics.

The problem here, is that we're often looking at quite grotesque and graphic scenes, especially in the beginning, with the way our hero's possessed arm mercilessly slays those bandits. Usage of graphic violence is often used to portray the harsh realism of war, and even life. Except, we're looking at a fantasy-adventure story, that needs its audience to identify with and be sympathetic for.

While many people feel differently, I feel that the graphic nature of the film is very contradictive towards the theme. Although the movie is very technically sound, I simply cannot accept this contradiction that lingers in my mind when I watch it.

first of all, i dint find it to very violent at all tbh.

secondly, contradictions like that can make a movie more interesting imo.

yea i agree with M_A the violence was realistic if his arm wasnt the way it was none of that would have happen (head and arm being decapitated and stuff) plus most anime movies have somthing to do with violence or love between the main character and another and they are usally in some type war or struggle.

I believe the movie really needed that blood and gore but I would say one of the scenes was a little over the top but hey its a Miyazaki's film so he has to keep us watch so we dont get bored lol

hehe, I believe in the opposite, but different people have different opinions. In my opinion, contrasting to Princess Mononoke, I felt that Spirited Away was the better film. But really, all of the classic anime films are very well executed, and worth great praise, not only Miyazaki's films.

I love this movie and own it. It was what got me into anime to begin with.

I've own Howl's Moving Castle (all of you should read the book it's based on, good book) and I've seen spirited away. All very good.

I loved the action, bit of romance and yes even the gore in Princess Mononoke. Very good film and if you haven't seen it you should. ;)
