Info: A potential "Spider-Man" spinoff, Sony is developing the project, based on the villain who appeared in "Spider-Man 3" and is hoping the character could serve as an antidote to the aging "Spider-Man" franchise in the way that Fox has used Wolverine to add longevity to its "X-Men" franchise.

Sony is also still developing a fourth "Spider-Man" film for 2011.

Current cast/crew:
Screenwriter - Jacob Estes

What does everybody think? Venom is pretty popular in the comics already so hopefully a Venom movie should be awesome. Venom in Spider-man 3 wasn't that great and I think Spider-man 3 was probably the worst out of the Spider-man movies.

If they do make a Venom movie I don't think they should cast Topher Grace again as he wasn't that great in it unless he can improve himself as Venom. I'd say that Thomas Haden Church played Sandman well.

Venom is definitely kick-ass in the comics, but Spider Man 3 did not do Venom well. It greatly disappointed me.

I like Grace as an actor, but I'll agree on his bad acting of Venom.

I'm just hoping that this movie won't suck and completely destroy the popularity Spidey has gotten in the recent years.

Well, they could make the movie work. Venom the symbiote has been bonded to people other than Peter Parker and Eddie Brock (he's currently bonded to Mac Gragan, the Scorpion, in the comic series). So they could always introduce a new character that has a more "Eddie Brock" personality and build (I still say that the director of Spider Man 3 got Venom and Carnage mixed up) for the spin-off movie. I'm not sure who the villian would be, but seeing as the two recent Marvel movies have characters intertwining, perhaps Venom's movie could end with the birth of Carnage, with Spider-Man 4 being Venom and Spidey versus this new nemesis?

*Images a Maximum Carnage movie, and drools*

Either way, they need someone different than Topher Grace for the role. They need someone who is a lot more emotional in their acting and can do inner turmoil properly.

The 90% of soap opera presence in Spiderman 3 greatly disturbed me.

Venom is badass, it would be cool if they had some story of his origins.

Venom as a stand alone comic never really interested me. I mean, without Spiderman Venom just isn't as fun but a Maximum Carnage storyline would be beyond amazing.

Carnage is pretty much all I'm waiting for film wise now, I really want to see if they manage to do him justice.

I'd laugh if they end up making Carnage into what we think of as Venom, seeing as Venom in Spider Man 3 was more of a Carnage. >.<

hopefully they actually grasp the essence of the character like they failed to do in SM3.
