I looked for a thread like this but couldn't find one. If there is one, I apologize.

So who do you think is the greatest anime villain of all time? This can be from ANY anime. I don't mean the most powerful either, it's just your personal opinion. Please provide reason and don't just post the name.

My pick:
Vicious - Cowboy Bebop. In my opinion he has the perfect "villain" personality. Cold, intelligent, potent in combat, and just plain evil. It's all topped off with a cool name, as well.

Griffith from Berserk - a charismatic and likeable guy, and his relationship with the main character is complex and well developed. applies to the anime and more so to the manga.

Legato from Trigun - plain badass tbh.

and best of the best:
Johan Liebert from Monster - smart, devious, and cool. one of the more interesting vilalins ive seen in any anime.

from my limited anime viewing id agree with Vicious and Legato, both well thought out and interesting villians.

M_A what kinda anime is ''Monster''?

Aion from Chrono Crusade. There is nothing worse than a bad guy who thinks his reasons are good for everyone, not just himself. He mind screws with people, erases their memory, toys around life, and tries to become God so that everyone can be "free."

Cain from Trinity Blood is up there too just by this quote, "I am a being that needs nothing, and therefore needs everything."

I think Light should be mentioned here (Death Note). IT was a unique case where we were actually looking through the eyes of the villain, but Light is definitely a great villain. Evil mastermind who is really good at manipulating and molding situations to benefit him and his motives.

Agreed just for the pure genius that was death note, Also i vote the akatsuki from naruto the whole group are just bad ass especially uchiha itachi. he may not be huge but he is made of win so cool,

Also the laughing man from ghost in the shell, he was so pimp it took them forever to catch him and when they did they wanted him to join them cause of his uber micro skills lol

w0rd.
Griffith is one of the best villans of all time.
A devil in a sheep's clothing, so to say.
Beautiful, but merciless when it comes to his dream.

Yes he is a great villan.
A perfect world, and everything that is inbeetween that and him is gone, period!

I'd also liek to add the Major from Hellsing.
An SS soldier obsessed with everything that is war.

I wanna throw out Hamdo from Now and Then, Here and There. Just because he ruined so many peoples lives by destroying villages and forcing children to kill in his army.

^Never seen that, but he sounds pretty evil.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Gin.

Not really an enemy...The overfiend from Return of the overfiend.

Basically somebody that was meant to unite 3 worlds would actually in turn destroy the whole thing.

Which I found cunning and quite smart when it was played out.

Light Yagami. So bad you actually root for him. :P

Definitely. Not your typical bad guy.

I also say yagami light. he was killing people for maddd long. and he had soo many followers and he was still alive in a time skip and he killed his protagonist hero guy that was supposed to stop him. And he survived multiple bullet wounds. Until his partner stab in the proverbial back.

I'm not a big Naruto fan...But damn, I really like Orochimaru. He's just sick. And is one of the rare villains that i've seen that do the shit himself, go to the fight with himself. Not full of protectors and plans. He just jumps for the battle without having to be protected.

Hisoka from Hunter X Hunter too of course. I think that one for who knows him don't need much of an explain.
