Saying thanks seem to have been added to replace the need for spammy thanks posts. If you look under "statistics" in your profile you can search for all the posts you've thanked, and all the posts you've been thanked.

It will also display the person who thanked you underneath your post. If you thank me for example, underneath this post will display your name along with anyone else who thanked this post.

Nope. Thanks and Rep are two different things. If you've been using Rep as Thanks in the past, you've been doing it wrong. :)

For the most part it seems that the only area you can't give thanks is the specific group forums, like division forums, graphic team forums, generation forums and fanclub forums.
