Okay This is driving me insane...
when do they use the first name first and when do they start with your last name.
for example:
they Uruhara Kisaki (I believe)
They use his first name first.
and they call Bayakuya Kuchiki Bayakuya.

I think this is really confusing. Help me out please...

Heh. get used to it, Telemaster, cause that's how most anime with major last names are...
and they don't use it all the time
Kuchiki - it's the last name for the Kuchiki family... Byakuya, and Rukia and probable a few more, can't remember...
Aizen Sousuke - You know... so I'm guessing his first name is Sousuke
Himura Kenshin - his first name is DEFENETLY Kenshin, unless you count his name before he was named by Hiko
so it's last name first... unlike america which is first name last... I think they speak a bit mixy in Japan...

Well, maybe they say the last name first to be respectful, Tele

lesson time!

in japan, the last (or family) name is used first. the first name is used second. that's why it's urahara kisuke, kuchiki byakuya, kuchiki rukia, kurosaki ichigo, etc.

you don't use the first name unless you're particularly close to that person (ex. friends, family members or your a thug who likes to cause trouble). it's considered rude to use a person's given name if you've just met them.

that's why most people use the last name when refering to someone. that's why most of the captains are kuchiki taicho, zaraki taicho, yamamoto taicho, etc. it's polite and proper to use the last name.

if you're challenging somone or causing a fight, you use the person's full name.

urahara is his last name. kisuke is his first name. everyone calls him urahara because none of them are close to him, see him as an enemy/rival or they look up to him as a superior.

if you noticed, the only one who really says byakuya's first name is rukia. this is because she's his adopted sister. everyone else calls him kuchiki taicho. ichigo says his whole name; this is because he sees him as a rival/enemy.

hope that helps ^^

telemaster- your welcome. glad it helped you ^^

unrefined-nemesis- you just made me more confused... o_O*

*edit* i was thinking about it all day, and i noticed that in bleach, they tend to use first names if there's more then one character with the same family name. like shiba... kaie, kuukaku and ganju. they use the first names. the kurosaki's... ichigo, karin and oh boy i forgot her name. oh well too tired to remember. but yah... just wanted to babble about that. oh, just remembered... yuzu. i'm going to sleep now.

The same can be said for when talking to people (in japanese that is) - but it only applies to friends and people you know becoz in japanese it's kinda rude to say "anata" (you) when asking about something so they tend you talk to each other using their first name. For example (using made up japanese names):

Testsuya: Ashita, Haruko-chan wa nani o shimasu ka (What are YOU (Haruko) doing tommorow?

See what i mean? But they teach you in japanese classes to use "anata". But meh, this is just an example of why people use names when talking to one another ^^
