Here is what's known about the story so far for those interested. Doesn't really give much away plotwise.

The Ova will feature Ichigo, Hitsugaya, and Renji as the main characters. They will have to face off against a new villian (created by Kubo Tite) named baishin, a person that Hitsugaya is apparently connected with somehow. There will also be cameo appearances by shunsui, yoruichi, soi fong, and Ichigo's family

Ova I was the 2004 Jump Festa: Memories in the Rain. It was the remake of the Grandfisher episode.

Why do I have the feeling that Renji is going to get owned again...this time by Baishin. Oh well, he looks cool in that scarface type suit. Too bad Byakuya wont be making an appearance, but he's already had his time in the spotlight for now. Im looking forward to seeing Ukitake and Shunsui in action.

dunno the exact date but its supposed to be out december 2006, thats wat i heard anyway... anyway renji looks like a gangster in that suit lol hanatarou looks funny [wonder if he is undercover lol :D]... the main villain could be the previous 10th division captain, thats wat i thought anyway when someone said that hitsugaya is connected to him... hopefully this bleach ova will be better then the previous one, memories of the rain

To answer the people that asked, OVA is an original video animation. The reason thats its longer and usually has better graphics is because more time is usually put into making an OVA. OVA's arent aired on TV, they are distributed straight onto DVD or VHS. Like the samurai x trust and betrayal ovas. They were made after Rurouni Kenshin was completely over, and were a lot better than the actually RK anime itself. and to TerryLee, you can download the first bleach OVA at Anime Yume.

No, the OVA is supposed to be out around April. The Bleach movie is coming out in December. Two different things. :)

So what's the movie going to be about?

Think of it this way:

Episodes- Usually 24 minutes long and follow an arc of some kind
OVA- Made for TV special/movie, usually longer than the typical episode, usually has better graphics, is often a remake of an already existing episode, usually is apart from the main story arc and may/may not affect the main story arc.
Movie- Comes out in theatres in Japan or goes straight to disc, is not included with disks sold (for instance you can't buy "season one" of Bleach when it comes out and expect the movie to be there BUT the first OVA probably will be there), is usually one hour and thirty minutes to two hours long, usually has WAY better graphics or at least WAY different graphics, usually doesn't affect the main storyline but it can.

I don't know if that helps any and it's probably simplistic but it's the way I always understand things.

So the OVA entitled Sealed Sword Frenzy will be out around April (at last word) and will feature the summary I included in my first post on this thread. It will be about thirty minutes long and will air on television.

The movie (don't know a title or summary for yet) will come out in December. It will be at least an hour long, if not longer, and will either air in theatres in Japan or come straight to disk in Japan. Hope that helps. Trust me, I was VERY confused about OVA's and movies when my friends started first talking about them. :)

Typically OAV or OVA simply means video released on disc or tape only and not released on TV. They usually feature more maturer content because they don't need to air on TV.

A lot of anime series have OAV/OVA series and they are usually more for fans than TV public viewing.

Sorry couldn't help it, but a OVA can be alot shorter than a regular episode.
One example is the OVA to Gundam Seed it was only 5 minutes long O.O !
