Advent Children...official english release...

I was just wondering when the official english version of Final Fantasy:Advent Children will be released in North America. Someone said it was laste 2005, but here we are...with no Advent Children in hand. Although like all of you, I've downloaded subbed versions of the movie through torrents(oh no! its illegal, right? but we all do it. :D), it's better to see it on a bigger screen with surrond sound, agree? The movie is awesome, everything looks so real. The characters look cool...Cloud looks so freaking awesome! final fantasy was like the only video game i've played in a long time.

I'm not sure but I believe it's only being released on PSP UMD,which I hope isn't true. UMD's are stupid IMO. I'd rather watch a DVD on a nice LCD where you can actually enjoy it. It was supposed to release both HERE AND JAPAN on September 6th and 7th. It even said on the trailer (2005). But after mass arguements on how they should release it, they delayed american release until further notice. So yeah, we're looking somewheree in 2006.

Last I heard was January 2006. I got fed up with the shifting dates and constant delays, so I grabbed a fansubbed DVD from my local anime store. I'm still looking forward to the NA release, so I can the special features and such.

I can't find a definitive date anywhere anymore, though. All my sources have stopped giving dates.

I heard thats the reason it was delayed... they know that most dubs really suck so there taking extra time to get a really good dub. We will have to wait and see how successfully they do the dub though (hopefully really good).

I call bullcrap on you. How does it need work? This is one of the most finely-animated movies ever. And the story was at least decent, voices were nice.

Im sure the DVD will be released in dual audio as is the popular trend nowadays anyway. As for the release date I hope they plan on releasing the special edition box set as well. Its somewhere in the range of $650 but its sooo cool.

Every amazing movie/series that comes out of Japan is horribly butchered by English dubbing. The original directors picked the voice actors for their characters for a reason, the english voice actors don't do their characters justice! Subbed > Dubbed.

The problem is if they got voice actors, even good ones like the ones who did the dub for Bebop and Trigun it'd still be weird hearing them with those characters. Its very important to a character to have a good voice actor or the character is completely ruined. I just dont think their are talented enough ones out their that would fit properly.

The thing is though, is that Enix says that they want to have one huge world wide release for it (Excluding Japan) Instead of shipping at so and so dates. And yes, the official release date is set for April 25th as confirmed by Enix themselves.

OMG! I got an early copy of it! It is suppose to be officially released in two days but i got one early! woooo!!!!

The dubbing is not as bad as I thought it would be. Though I still prefer the japanese undubbed version a lot better. I found Cloud's voice to be a little too deep and harsh. Aeris' voice was the weirdest of them all. She sounded like a tv commercial announcer. Zack was the best even though he only had like 3 lines.

I got the Japanese version on my comp, with english subs. Very good film, gets better everytime.

Now that iv'e seen it in Japanese, it will sound weird in english =\

I watched it in english, and they did an incredible job wit hthe voices. For thoes of you who are trying to "analyze" how well they did them, do it on it's own and critice the acting itself, not compared to the Japanese ones. Cuase if you watched the japanese first, you will be used ot it, and like it better. adn vise versa.

If you want to listen to a great dub, then watch princess mononoke... that was great.
but seriously with this one i felt that they pretty much took the script, got some one to translate it word to word... and let the actors sit in the studio and read them so that the would could match up the mouths and the audio... And they didnt have any action, when a person is running around and stuff, they should sound out of breath... or if they are riding a motorcycle they should be screaming above the wind...(and its really easy to do that, they have people called foley artist who do this for a living...) but in the movie it just sounded as if the people were sitting around and reading thier lines alone....

What i do have to say is they did a pretty good job casting the voice actors, people actually sounded like they should have sounded... to bad they didnt do the dubing right...

My first question is, how fluently do you speak japanese?

Also, for the rest of your points. The mouth movements are created to match the japanese language, dubbers do hwat they can to accomodate. this is especially more difficult with CG as opposed to traditional anime.

In the Japanese sun they didn't usually seam to out of breathe either. I just sttributed it to the fect they can leap buildings like superman. But i guess since it's english, then it is ok to rag on it. Same with the wind thing. I didn;t see to much of a difference.

It wasnt a matter of it not matching the mouths...

but not matching the situation... people were not matching the emotions of the characters... the best example of this would be in the first sequence with the moto cycles... the two guys speak over the dust and the wind and the action with perfect clarity and calmness... i would have thought a muffled shout would have worked better. Thats where i was disappointed...

And they should have tried to have reworked the script to match the caracters a bit... and offer two english subs... thats how i would have done it... instead of keeping the exact same script... like you said different language... different formula.

I got the movie long before it was dubbed to. Now, granted, I liked the Japanese better, but of course, that was because it worked with the mouth movements, and the sound was more realistic and natural.

But you know, had I heard the English first I'd be just as entertained. Sure, there are always going to be parts where you think: "Aw, my GRANDMA coulda done better dubbing", but you know, this was tough to dub, but they managed.

(I was kind of hoping in the back of my mind that they'd do a Kingdom Hearts thing and adjust all the necessary parts to English...:( Oh well.)

But there was no excuse for Aeris. She was just done terribly. Poor, Poor Aeris...*cries*

I haven't seen the English version yet, but I heard some of the voices/replaced words they used made the movie "stupid" if you will.
