I was gonna buy it but then they announced it to be in the world of Eberron.Which means that I won't be able to meet my favorite DnD heroes because they are in the world of Toril (Drizzt Do'Urden,Artemis Entreri,Jarlaxle,Archmage Elminister).

Chances are I'll check it out though,if only just to virtuallize my DnD Archmage Raven Del Domeda.

As for LOTR online,I'm kinda amazed that there are no spellcasters... How can you beat the beast of ultimate destruction without a mage to freeze is it?
I'll probably be an Elven Champion.

Yeah when they anounced Eberron i was a little po'd also. for me it was more not getting to go to all the places ive read about(and played D&D in) than it was meeting the characters.(though i definatly wouldnt mind meeting up with Elminster lol). But i mean how can you have D&D without the icy tundra of the ten towns, the hidden lords of waterdeep, the deep intrique of calimshan....(ok point is i could go on forever). And i never really liked Eberron(though techno magic is pretty cool)

Sigh,it would have been a game of limitless potential. Much like SWG and FFXI were.So many things you could have done. Perhaps teaming up with Drizzt for an adventure? Perhaps riding the waves of Baldur's Gate or slaying Red Dragon Hephaestus.

What a waste.

SWG...*sighs* What did those devs do to my poor game....They keep changing it and causing more people to leave. So muhc potential, no one at the wheel to do anything with it.

Imagine how fun it was for me. I had just gotten Jedi 2 months before the new iconic classes.

That would be quite a trick seeing as how Bruenor already killed him. We could ofcourse always get necromancer but still...

I'dd rather fight a blind red dragon than an undead black dragon.

If I would make a DnD online thing. I'dd first make Icewind Dale and up to Baldur's Gate.(That's about the size of the entire WoW world.)
Then from Baldur's Gate to Calimshan ( and add Caderly's stuff) as an expansion pack intitled the Secrets of Calmishan. Then I'dd add the Drow and make an expansion pack called The War of The Underdark and so forth.

They should have asked me to make it.

it sounds good, but I don't know if I should get DnD because of the prize. Are the monthly costs or is it like Guild Wars?

I'm glad they aren't using Toril. I've nothing against Faerun and the Forgotten Realms, but the Forgotten Realms are not where the core Dungeons and Dragons takes place. Most of Dungeons and Dragons is made for the Greyhawk setting, which is a bit more believeable than Faerun, and Ebberon has a lot of potential. As an avid tabletop gamer, I've heard good things.

One of the major problems with Faerun is it stretches even fantasy limits. Waterdeep is about the size of New York City. Magic or no, cities in a medieval time period should NOT be that big. Greyhawk, which is far smaller than Waterdeep, is a much better representation of how a large fantasy city should be. Hell, I think Waterdeep is larger than Union, and Union is a planar metropolis.

That aside, one of the major problems that Faerun would have is the fact that it is a nonstandard Dungeons and Dragons world. Tabletop gamers will know what I'm talking about when I say that there are a lot of books designed specifically for the Faerun campaignset. Things are different from standard D&D there.

Furthermore, Ebberon is not going to be lacking in the kind of locales you are all talking about. As I understand it Ebberon is created to be a world just as Faerun is or Krynn is or Greyhawk is, and it will be able to use new elements without having to rely on name-recognition.

I really think a lot of the hardcore tabletop gamers will probably be happier about it not being in Faerun in the long run. There's a lot more that can be done, given Ebberon's relative newness, than could happen within Faerun, which is already well-established.

It shouldn't be lacking any of the elements that Faerun has, but it will be a newer and unique world within which to play. I'm rather looking forward to it, and will be following it and possibly even buying it, depending on how the costs go.

Well now we're debating the potential of a new storyline compared to an established storyline. On one note,Eberron still has many things to be done and heroes to be made which can be good or bad depending on what you want.It does remove quest that imvolve some epic adventurer needing help (which tend to be the funnest) but it has more potential.
That being said,I'm still a hardcore Toril fan. Also about Waterdeep, they're probably not gonna put the entire city ya'know. They're probably gonna do the same thing as SWG did for Corruscant and downsize it.

One thing Toril has that would be difficult to pull off at the game's inception is the fact that there are a LOT of epic characters running around causing mischief. Eberron shouldn't have as much of that until the actual players reach that point. In a world where Elminster can choose to come in and beat the crap out of anybody he pleases, it can be rather off-putting to some players.

Don't get me wrong, I like Faerun, it's a fun world. However, I would not like a D&D game to be placed on there. If they made a D&D online: Faerun version, that'd be kind of cool, but I think the choice to place the main area on Eberron is a sound one.

What I think they should do is if it gets big enough, release some expansion packs that allow access to a Planar Metropolis, and from there you can go to other worlds such as Greyhawk, Faerun and Krynn. Not only would it make them inordinate amounts of money, if they do it right it'd be a lot of fun and a lot of people'd get on board with that. Imagine taking one's epic level kender rogue onto Faerun and picking the pockets of Elminster himself!

But really, I think Faerun'd be restricting for the core game. As was said it's already so well established they can't do something original and unique as easily as they can with Eberron, should they want to do something global (which I would imagine they do). There's so much that's already happened in Faerun, the amount of Forgotten Realms books out there is staggering. Better to start with a new world, I would think.

One word. Warforged. Those things piss me off. There one of the main reasons i dont like Eberron. There ridiculously powerfull and just no fun. Plus I like magic to be magic, The mostly tech dominated magic of Eberrron has always annoyed me to no end. One of the reasons I can see them going for Eberron is that the airships will be a good means of transport between place. But still I doubt the love I had for Toril can ever be replaced by a bunch of shades and dinosaur riding halflings.
