Thinking of going for a trip to Japan? I am! haha.. but i'd need some help to make it a memorable trip because Japan is an expensive country!
Im planning to go for a 1-2 week trip to visit all the interesting cities like Tokyo, Hokkaido.. and maybe during term break so i can catch all the ________________. hehe. ( thinking ecchi thoughts? )
so, a few questions!
For those who have been to Japan,
What made it special?
What would you have changed to make that trip a more memorable one? Any recommendations on where to go, what to do?
Would it be beneficial to know Japanese?
POST SOME PICTURES YOU TOOK OF/IN JAPAN!
For those who havent been to Japan,
Where do you want to go?
For Japanese people,
WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU??
haha.. i was thinking they could be really useful guides you know.. Japan is one hell of an interesting country.
haha.. hopefully this thread will evolve into some form of travel catalogue. Participate please!

If I were you and I had my license I would go down that mountain that people drift on. I forgot the name but its fun ^_^
Its special to me cause I have very many freinds thier.
I would have gone to other islands besides stay In Tokyo for most of the time. IMO its up to you ware ya wana go, but if ya wana go see something exciting go see some sumo wrestling and go to Mt Fuji. Also go check out Okanawa (sp) they have very beutiful shrines thier ,and eat alot of sushi. It is definatly benifical to know Japanese but it is not real important deal. Alot of young people actually speak some english.

oh okay, can guess that much. That they speak english, that is. But you know if you go to those inns with natural hot springs and hidden in the mountains there arent many young people.. so.. haha.. i'll go buy a phrasebook.
Can we climb Mount Fuji. haha.. i want to! then go skiing in hokkaido. i know that much.
oh the shrines.. i read Ichigo 100% so shrines are important places. haha.. can buy love charms!

i've just came back from japan (nagasaki). I went to tokyo the year before, and both times were real awesome. I love japan. Everything in japan fascinates me ^^
recommendations?
well, for tokyo, if you wanna go to tokyo disney land and disney sea obviously. disney land's just like a normal theme park 'cept pack with ALOT of pple, can spent up to 2 or 3 hours to just line up for one ride. disney sea has relaly relaly nice stuff and nice scenery that no other place have. there's also a ramen museum (tho i'm not sure if it's in tokyo) and if you'r a girl, u'd be interested in the hello kitty land
nagasaki -
a place called 'huis ten bosch' - has beautiful scenery. and space world - a theme park. And u've gotta try the honey cake at nagasaki, it's really really NICE! and try the chiyanbon, it's a kinda noodle, it's nice too. and their ramen's good too
osaka -
you've gotta try the 'osaka yaki', it's food and it's really nice!
hokkaido -
mainly the food and onsen
kyoto -
visit the shrines
hiroshima -
the memorial place (where they dropped the bomb)
Would it be beneficial to know Japanese?
well i spose so, but as slvr said, they can speak SOME english, but not that well tho...
@ SLVR - where did you get that sig from? cos it's made by my friend for my other friend......

2 days and I will be stayin for 5 more days.
Well since I live in Massachusetts, I would not regard this weather as cold ^^
Once I get back, I'll post the pictures and my recommendations so my fellow Bleach fans will get to know me and Japan better.

I also plan to go to Japan at some point in my life. Before I go though, I want to at least be capable of holding a basic conversation in Japanese though. It would be rather rude to go in to some other country not knowing ANYTHING of the language, and then expect everyone to talk your language, afterall.
I am not sure of where I would want to go. I would like to see the cities for a while. Then I would probably go to a more... relaxing area. We all know the cities are nice, but it would probably be good to take a look at areas expressing the culture of the area. Again though, knowing enough of the language to hold basic conversation would probably be essential.

I agree. This basic point is overlooked by America's education system. We shouldn't have to cater towards foreign people in our country. While I do think we should be polite, the majority not knowing their language or culture is their problem. It's necessary in places like Europe to know multiple languages because the countries are so small. That's hardly the case here......

All going well, I'm going to start a job in Japan in March.
I can't wait! I'm going to be a language instructor for Nova Corporation.

Man, it must be awesome to visit Japan. You might need this link (http://www.sf.airnet.ne.jp/~ts/japanese/) for some Japanese basics and stuff :)
Anyway, I hope you'll have a good time when you go. I've seen a few DVD's about life in Tokyo :P (some Gameshow-crew named Gamekings) films the Tokyo Game Show there. And while they are there they always check out some nice places and little restaurants etc. etc.

I've been to Japan before...when I was a baby!
I think that is worse than never having been there at all. Talk about great misses in life. I don't even remember being there at all.
