well there you have it, revolution can be lowe as 149.99 or 99 bucks, but then i woudnt count on it.

Just yesterday IGN Revolution launched with technical details on Nintendo's next-generation console, codenamed Revolution. And today more development sources have come forward with both clarification and even more tech specs. The latest news begins to paint a clearer picture of Nintendo's aim with its next platform.

We cannot stress this enough: Revolution is not being positioned as a competitor to either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Nintendo has instead chosen to design a console that will be very affordable for consumers. For that very reason, say developers in the know, the Big N has opted out of filling the system with a massive supply of expensive RAM.

In yesterday's article, we wrote that Revolution would include 128MBs of RAM, or possibly less. Developers have clarified the makeup based on officially released Nintendo documentation. Revolution will build on GameCube's configuration of 24MBs 1T-SRAM and 16MBs D-RAM (40MBs) by adding an addition 64MBs of 1T-SRAM. The result is a supply of memory in Revolution that totals 104MBs. That number does not consider either the 512MBs of allegedly accessible (but hardly ideal) Flash RAM or the Hollywood GPU's on-board memory, said to be 3MBs by sources.

Revolution's Broadway CPU, developed by IBM, is an extension of the Gekko CPU in GameCube, according to official Nintendo documentation passed to us by software houses. The Hollywood GPU, meanwhile, is believed to be an extension of the Flipper GPU in GameCube. Since developers have not gone hands-on with the GPU, they can only go on Nintendo documentation, which is limited.

Exact clock rates were not disclosed, but one development source we spoke to had this to say of the Revolution CPU and GPU: "Basically, take a GameCube, double the clock rate of the CPU and GPU and you're done."

We presented that description to another informed studio, which clarified that the clock rates may even fall short of doubling those on GameCube.

"The CPU is the same as Gekko with one and a half to two times the performance and improved caching," said a source. "Our guys experimented with it and think they'll be able to get about twice the performance as GameCube."

"It's a gamble for the Big N," said another source. "It's not about horsepower for them -- it's about innovation and gameplay."

We've also been able to unearth firm details on the storage capacity for Revolution discs. Recent rumors suggesting that the discs can hold 12GBs of data are false. In fact, Revolution discs can store 4.7GBs of data on a single layer or 8.5GBs when double-layered on a single-side. This is a massive jump from the 1.5GB capacity of GameCube discs and more than enough storage capacity for any non-high-definition game.

Readers discouraged by Revolution's seeming lack of horsepower when compared to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 should remember that Nintendo is not interested in competing in the high-definition gaming arena, and as a standard-definition console, Revolution is more than capable. Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remains one of the most gorgeous games this generation and it ran on GameCube, a console at least half as powerful according to developer reports.

Software houses we spoke with also waxed on the immediate advantage to Nintendo's approach with Revolution, which is, of course, system price. Every developer was in agreement that Revolution should launch with a price tag of $149 or lower. Some speculated that based on the tech, a $99 price point would not be out of the question.

i really doubt it will launch at $99 because even though they COULD do that (based on tech) it doesnt mean they will. charging say 50 more dollars would most likely get the same amount of buyers (slightly less, but probably not that much less) but they make more money so it evens it out

Umm..that's gonna be one peice of crap. But I heard that the controlers are some kind of infared motion sensor thing, that sounds expensive.

This doesn't surprise me at all, I've heard rumors from my friends that the Revolution was speculated to cost around 100$-150$. Its great, considering there is a multitude of players who concentrate more on game-play than graphics. Nintendo is more than a push-over in the console race, and in the hand-held they're still best. I don't want to urge any PSP >/< DS conversations, but in my opinion DS is better, and it has sold more. Innovation is what will keep the Nintendo a top contender for many years, even if they don't have the best graphics.

I don't think it'll be quite that low, but Nintendo has been definitely trying to undercut prices in the console race. All companies lose a great deal of money on the consoles as is, even with the high price of the Xbox 360 they still lose money on the purchase of the system itself. It's the games where these companies make their money.

I think they're incredibly smart for doing this. People see this $100 console by nintendo, one of the most easily recognizable names, next to a $300 one by Microsoft...they'll get everyone who doesn't want to pay so much for an XBox360 or PS3. Which is a lot of people.

The controlers is realy hentai. When they first showed up WTFGTHBBQ people have wild imagination and I don't like it. They will probably go with the same strategy as with GC, pretty low prize and then REALY low prize. The problem with this revolutionary system is that developers have to put down more work to design solutions from this completly different style. It's always going to be easiest to develop games to xbox cuz it's like a computer already. MICRO_damn-SOFT is in charge and they are lifeless little critters and as we know they duplicates much quicker but with less quality and often more annoying, BANZAI Nintendo!!!!!!!!!

with the compatibility maily in houes games will use it but for other ones they said they will also realease a "shell" that the controller slots into using the same port as the other hand thing. with the prices i allways said they would probaly be around $200 (i am in aus this is around $150 us) as all there other systems have been around that bench mark so when they do this they aim to be able to sell them at this price and make proffit. nintendo are know for inovation that in the future becomse the norm first is was abxy then it was shoulder buttons then anologe sticks then playing gb/a/ds games on the system (sony have been toutoing the psp/ps3 combatibility but this is all old news) also i think with the light guns with the old famicon hell they invented most of sonys good games mgs ff i cant recall any more off the top of my head

meh with Nintendo's aim this is a very good move. Nintendo is aiming at a wider range of audience than the normal "15-19" year old age group. Having a price that is considerably lower than the "competitors" gives them an edge so that even the older crowd sees it as affordable. on another note, i've seen a lot smack about the controller and i think all of it is absurd. If you really think about the Nin-Rev's controller you could trully see its versatility, Think about how many periphs. you could add and how "Revolutionary" the infared sensor is.

i really like the controler tho. when you play fps games or games like zelda, you can swing the sword like real life as you are really in the game... think of real life cs

Ehh, I'll get it. It looks to be a new kind of gaming experience so that should comphensate for the lack of "horsepower". I do care about graphics though. No, they don't make a game, but they can add greatly to the experience. Everyone here has probably been dissapointed by a title's appearence in some way or another. You'd be lying if you said otherwise. :whatevah:

what about windwaker? its graphics were iffy at first but the game play pulled it through

hmmm I never played winwaker so I don't know...

but i have played Fire Emblem for the gameboy and while the graphics are basically cartoon like it is a GREAT game... graphics do count toward game experience... but only when used properly, and only if it falls in with the mood of the game...

back to topic...
I had heard about Revoltion being $150 but if it's only a $100 then I will definitely buy it... it does have a graphics upgrade... sure they won't be as high-end as PS3 or Xbox360, but it will almost definitely have better graphics than ps2 and xbox.. which is good since it will cost less than either of those when they were first released..

plus I'm hearing you can download old favorites... and there may be free multi-online... woah...

It's not going to be crap. It's not as powerful specs wise as the 360 or PS3 but innovation more than makes up for it considering all that Sony ever do is throw in random processing power and shit. Revolution controller communcates using bluetooth so it's not going to be expensive at all. If it used infra red it would be crap because you would have to face the controller directly at the port. Just because Revolution doesn't meet up to it's opponents spec wise doesn't mean it's crap.

nintendo normally has the best strategy out of the three. if u think about it, xbox and play station games are mostly for teens and cost more compared to nintendo. nintendo also focuses on all the ages, instead of just the teens...

a lot of there games are good in the fact that kids enjoy them but older people see a deeper meaning and as such enjoy the game as well, with the jap trend with minilamisum(smallthings) the revo should go well with a size predicted at 3 dvd cases ontop of each other if not smaller

i think their price point and unique controller will help nintewndo gain back some ground in the console war,the only problem is getting third party support, nintendo will always have their classic line up of first party software, i just hope developers will try to innovate as much as nintendo will

even if they dont you still will be able to play the all system games due to the controler shell

Man at that price it'd be awesome becuae I heard that they might be post pone the release of "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" for the Revolution and if they do then it'll be worth the amount to get the Rev because of it's affortable price, even 149 is ok for a new system.

i heard from a guy i knoe at eb that it may be dual system (gcn and revo) with better things/bonuses if you use the revo

They could but probably wont, they will make more money and plenty of people will buy it for 150.

I cant wait, it going to be awesome for FPS games.

Plus Nintendo games are the best..

Ah.. The hours I spent on Super Smash Bros..
