:eek13: i really hate turn based rpgs
ooohhh lets just stand around and take an attack from a golden cloud with magical powers and then make an attack and miss?!? spend 9 hours looking for a ring to give to some old fart who'll only say thanks can u do something for me again thats more pointless
i hate
ff
zelda
nothing bores me more
i am not a bitter man! lol
if only the ff series had gameplay like devil may cry with the weapon upgrades and powers now that would rock instead of just standing in front of an enemy taking a hiding

First off, it took me a minute to decipher what you said, but i will do my best.
Most of those games you said arn't RPG's. the ones you seam to like would relaly be refered to as "action" or in some cases "platformer" games. many people get this confused. also, many "turn based RPG's" are actualyl under the strategy game catagory.
now as for turn based RPG's they are actually very good. they take time and though, you cant play them if you are an impatient person.
Devil May Cry is not an RPG, i am sorry. but is a very good game regardless.
thats abotu all i got right now, work calls.

Turn Based RPG's are cool; it's almost like a game of chess. And most of them have great storylines and character development. I can spend hours and hours just killing stuff to look for items, or gain levels. I used to hate RPGs, but like Draffut said, you gotta be patient to play these things, and I guess it was something that came over time.
A good RPG is a lot like a good anime series.

That just kills your whole statement because now people think you are an idiot. If you want to debate something get your facts straight then come back.
c'mon, don't be so harsh, i dunno how to separate MMORPG from RPG before...lol
anyway, depending on what you intend to say, such turn based games have their plus, you need to play deeper into the game, usually it is like chess, when battle in a field, you learn how to move your soldier's around, what is the enemy's attack range? how far or efficient can you spend your moves?
If I may, I recommend the Wind Fantasy series, by Fun Yours Interactive, it is indeed where you have a lot of fun.

MMO = Mass multiplayer online... thats all you need to seperate MMOprg from RPG.
meanwhile i cant get into turn based games. my friend let me borrow FFX and when he accidentally overwrote my file (i was somewhere 20-30 hrs in) i didnt care enough to start over. the game style doesnt suit me. theres strategy, as felonious said... it is much like chess.
thats why i play Need For Speed Most Wanted, where its not about whats the BEST strategy, but about quick thinking... "what the hell can i do RIGHT NOW to not get busted by the cops!?!" >_<

prophecy, don't turn this into a flame thread man. We all got our opinions here and he has his own. "Zelda CAN be related to a turn base strategy because of it's elaboration for get this, power up, get this, defense up, get this, whee lvl up." where as DMC, is more of a hack and slash button masher with selective styles that can lvl up, but not for any purpose, just for style.
But I don't see how you can hate FF >_O
Darren, not all of us are car maniacs thanks :3 Though I gotta say...FASTER FASTER FASTER
my engine can never be good enough for Need for Speed...somehow I am always out drifted...
anyway, thanks Darren for the info.
all i can say is...patience is the rule, if you don't have that, of course u regard it as sucky, otherwise, it is fun, my reason for liking the Wind Fantasy series is because a series of percentages and chances depending on what you have and what you do. The idea is that even if you are powerful, it boils down to how you manage your troops to win.

no they don't suck because less work to do. all i do is hold down the "enter" button and everything works out fine. the only time i get worked up for is the boss or I know it's going to be a though battle.
but yeha there are other rpgs that aren't turn base like star ocean titles.

I hope you really dont believe anything you just said. there is NOTHING turnbased about zelda. actually, it is EXACTLY as turnbased as DMC. DMC is just alot faster paced.
Oh and DMC 1 is still the best one. 2 was crap, and 3 they just tried to hard to make it hard.

thank you Draffut.
@Arakawa, if i debate, i debate hard. Not to mention that all the supposed RPG elements in Zelda arent even there. The only form of power up is in sword changes that hardly make a difference, Same goes for defence and shields. And there is no, i repeat, no level ups in zelda. You just gain hearts, Not to mention their magic-base system sucks.

there's nothing wrong with turn based RPGs it's just a matter of turning up the speed. Gives you a chance to think out stradegy too.

turn based rpgs are what makes the games great, not everyone likes jumping around like a crazy frickken squirrel with AIDS...if your a patiente person and you dont get extremely mad when the enemys get to attack 5 times before you even get to attack once ? well then turn based rpgs are the games for you
(ps. zelda isnt turn based moron dont start a debate if you dont know what the hell your talking about)

In my opinion turn based RPG's are the best ones. Why? Cause they mainly have really good fight and character lv up system. Aww my english is kinda bad to say what i really mean. But isn't one thing show I';m right. That's themodern rpgs are all based on turn based rpgs cuz first rpgs were systems like D&D ad they were turn based. And if yo don't like FF then yo really can't be true rpg fan! It's just agastin the law rofl.

no way, turn based RPGs are the best ones. They usually have the best stories and characters, and they're really addictive and can be quite challenging if you don't know how to play (wich seem to be your case, since you don't like FF and think Devil May Cry is an RPG)
and btw Zelda's not turn based

i believe i mentioned ff series as having turn based i know zelda is action but u still have to walk around for ages looking for some lame wizard
and i am sorry if i upset ne fanboys in here but dont call me an idiot
seriously i just read all the abuse i got in here i cant believe there are types of people as urselfs in this world
I think turn bases fights don't rock.
I think that is the only min-point about star wars KOTOR.
That game rock as hell but I think it would be cooler if you'd have a non-turn base fight scene. would also be more realistic...

I consider my self lucky. I like all kinds of RPGs. I love turn-based like KOTOR I and II, ff and dragon warrior. I also like action-RPGs, like Jade Empire and The Elder Scrolls series.
So no, turn-based RPG's DO NOT suck.

Okay, first off zelda may not be turn based but to say you don't like it cos of this reason suggests to me that you dont like RPGs cos you nearly always end up doing some thing like that in most.
As for turn-based RPGs they do require a certain amount of patience, but if you dont like these games heres a bit of non-offensive advice:
Put the pad down, turn the console off, and change the game.
Its as the British band Status Quo says: "You pay your money, and takes your choice"
In other words no-one said you have to play these sort of games.....

Actually, partly, yes, and the other part no. It's always fun to spice threads up, I just don't want to see them go down the drain. And my bad on the leveling up part, never played much Zelda games. And before you think, "Then why the hell are you posting?" think Windwaker >_>

It depends. Some can be really boring because they are not even SLIGHTLY interactive. Turn-based systems that allow you to put in a few combos or some kind of user-interaction to power-up are generally good. I like Action RPGs and Turn-Based RPGs equally though, to be honest.

I kinda like turn based but I get sick of them fairly quickly
Turn based mostly focuses on the storyline rather than those Hack'n'Slash Games.
I'm not saying DMC is bad, but it doesn't really have much of a storyline, which is unlike the FF series.
By reading your post, I'm betting you hate Fantasy games >.<

Oh, DMC is good!
You would so totally love the Prince of Persia trilogy (just the recent ones). I know I do. It's not boring at all.
I don't like the FF battle system either. It's like "Oh, looks like it's my turn to press a button. Whoop-di-doo." *press* Oh, looks like Seamore body slammed me and his hairy pot belly was so unbearably gross that I died in one hit!
But which Zelda are you talking about? I don't remember there being a turn based one.

i don't think it sucks. it all depends on how they developed the style of the game.

I have seen 2 opinions here: That rpg's have beter story and character, and action games have more...well, action
This is why you should all go buy Metal Gear Solid. More story/character than FF, better action than most games. And you get to WEAR A GOD DAMN ALLIGATOR HEAD FOR A HAT.
Game, set and match to me. God I'm good

This game's story is nothing in the light of FFT. Actually, i was very disappointed in this game's story to tell you the truth.
And as far as action goes, it was below most games i play. or atleast not as interesting.

yeah i love RPG's as well, what makes a great RPG isn't the gameplay it is the storyline. I've read this extremely long thesis that talks about Final Fantasy 7 as a basis to argue how great RPG's are. It was really well written i found it really good, but it was extremely long like over 100 pages.

gosh there is nothing more exciting then a turned based rpg, just take Final fantasy games, like FFX, battle between u and semoyr take 3. that is one of the most annoying fight in whole Final fantasy game (after the super duper bosses from arenas etc). maybe its just me but a fight u got time to really think what could happen is awesome, and bomm u made wrong move and *GAME OVER*

01-23-2006, 04:21 PM
turn based is indeed about strategy, the fun is you could own the game with overleveling and just smack everyone in the first turn u get.
no taking hits and easy exp for you.

easy and easy.... after a while it takes like 1000000000 battles to lvl up :P
