Greatest RPG up to date: Dragon Quest VIII

Borrowed it from work, Gamestop that is because employees can actually rent games to try for 5 days. Loved it, didn't think much because of the other series but it's an excellent rpg. This is a "don't judge a book by it's cover" type of game. I thought it was too kiddish but I just couldn't stop playing it for the 5 days I had it and man I'm going to probably go buy it soon. Hopefully I'm not the only one to have played it.

Also not sure it's true but just like Halo 2, how everyone took off work to get the game and played it, this game was so crazy in Japan that I heard it was a national crisis to the economy when the game was released.

I loved it, but I still say FFVII is better. And will be, for all of eternity, the best RPG ever. But that's a debate for another topic, eh?

I got it, didn't play to far in. It seamed like a slightly above average RPG to me. I had just gotten my last character when i stopped playing.

A decent buy if you like RPG's alot, but otherwise.... I wouldn't say it is anywere near the best.

I'm more interested in the FF12 demo that comes with Dragon Quest. Is Dragon Quest at all cliqued because it looks like an average Breath of Fire whatever RPG?

The game is extremely long, I'm about 56 hours into it an it doesnt look like its going to end yet. I love it, it takes forever to level up but it's very old school so it makes up for it. One of my favorite rpg's.

I haven't gotten a chance to play so it's just been sitting in my room. The previous games have been really good though. And yeah the FFXII was awesome.

Dragon Quest is very much like GTA, as there is no real plot line, you can do missions at your own discretion and finish as quickly or slowly as you want. Just to tell you i've played about 60 hours and it seems it just gets longer and longer..lol...thats good i guess..

well gta is boring after a while, rpgs give you side quest but actually have meanings that either change the story or not while gta there are mandatory missions.

The Dragon Quest series was the RPG that MADE half of the RPG cliches out there.

DQVIII is great for nostalgia factor, definitely, and rather entertaining besides. However, it's not that terribly good, there are much better RPGs out there (see: Xenogears).

It's a lot of fun though. I love that they use a lot of the sounds and musical themes from the original. The sound to revive someone or save the game is the same as it's been since DQI and DQII.

hey void don't forget that my title says greatest title up to date not of all time. Xenogears is a great rpg so is ff7 and many others like suikoden 2. but still can't wait for ff12

I love this game! I got to the very last boss and... stopped playing... Like I do with all my games... man I should beat all these games one day...
