What’s the story behind the lyrics of Candle Chant (A Tribute)?
There was a 24-year-old kid that was a big fan. He was a half-Japanese and half-black kid that rapped and was dying of cancer. His mother called me up directly and said my son is sick and he respects you so much and asked if I would mind visiting him at the hospital because it would give him the courage to fight. So I went to the hospital with Boss the MC to visit him. Since he was a rapper, I wanted to do a song with him but he couldn’t move enough to make it to the recording studio so we talked to the hospital and was going to bring the equipment there so we could record at the hospital. So we were planning it out but two weeks later he passed away. So the song is about him and about the pure connection of a very limited time together and how certain circumstances brought us together. The last lyric in Japanese on that song says you will always be in our soul so it’s about connecting with somebody and no matter where they go, we are always together and he will always be here. He was a very powerful young man. He was half- black and half Japanese so he was probably discriminated against and kind of picked on in school. He always said that he’s not mixed blood but has the power of two bloods and that’s why he felt he had the power to beat the cancer so it made a very powerful impact on both Boss and myself.

i just found out a whole lotta other stuff from one of my other friends, this is how it happend he was walking home from his house it happend like maybe a block from his house and he heard the accident and ran out and saw his friend on the ground still alive...and he died in his arms omg and i thought i was angery and sad i cant imagine how he feels to have your best friend die in your arms asking you for help and not being able to do anything the pain he must be feeling....i cant imagine.... :( :(

That's terrible, I hope you are holding up alright, and I feel for your loss. I was destroyed after my little sister died, because I could have and should have done a million things to prevent it. I don't have any words that could help you feel any better, because I never heard any that could help me. However, I don't think revenge has the power to console you.

I can understand you wanting whatever bastard did this to suffer, but please don't try to do anything drastic. You'll only hurt yourself if you kill the guy who did it, and what is worse, you'd hurt other people who had nothing to do with the incident in the same way you're hurting now. I know I don't know you, and I can't expect you to think rationally at a time like this, but giving your pain to others wont make it go away. Do what you can to keep murderers off the streets, but don't put another one out there.

...Damn, I sound like a ****ing made for TV anti-violence movie. This is how I feel, though.

My condolences to you, simply every death that we witness will leave us mourning. But one must always remember death is just the beginnig of another path whether you are religious or not. Don't let the loss of your best friend drag you to the ground, trust me it is better to remember the times you had with him or her, i didn't know them so i am not going to assume either way, anyhow i lost all my grandparents by the time i was 10 and inside my graduating class we lost three students to car accidents. So trust me best to look on the bright side of things or you'll find your own life will suffer if you allow it to depress you too long, but i do now my closeest friends wouldn't want me to get to sad on their account. So mourne just as long as you need too just don't let it put you down too much, and again remember death is just a step in the direction of a new path for both yourself and the deceassed. I'm afraid that that is all I can give as far as advice, accepted the hit and runner probably is having as much trouble unless they are a sociopath, who doesn't know right from wrong. No matter whom you lose they will always be with you.
