Hey everyone! I've watched a whole bunch of Miyazaki movies and their all like so good. What do you guys think is the best movie. There's:
- Spirited Away
- Kiki's Delivery Service
- Howl's Moving Castle
- Nausicaa
- Princess Mononoke
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Castle in the Sky
- Porco Rosso
- Warriors of the Wind
- Whisper of the Heart
- Earthsea
And other ones. But my absolute favorite of all times is Spirited Away. That movie was so freakin awesome I watched it like ten times. i haven't seen Porco Rosso but my friend Zanteszuken970 says he's going to watch it. He says it looks cool. I want to watch it but I don't have the channel or else I can't find it. Anyways whats your favorite Miyazaki movie?

i think it's either between my neighbor totoro or spirited away. princess mononoke was a pretty good movie but the message was not that subtle if you know what i mean.

Definitely Spirited Away. The details are out of this world. He's really a master of story telling.

I can't decide....Each of the movies are really good in their own way.......I guess...My Neighbor Totoro since that was the first one I saw and I never really get sick of it after seeing it so many times.
By the way, have anyone ever heard of Whisper of the Heart? not sure if this is a Miyazaki-san movie, but the art style is similiar to his.

I thought Princess Mononoke was good, because it was just a really good story. But I like Spirited Away too because I thought it was cute ^_^

Miyazaki's Earthsea isn't even out yet, so how is that a valid selection?
Anyway, I'm going to say that Spirited Away is the best Miyazaki work so far, because of the unique plot (one of the screenplays he wrote himself), and his encompassing all forms of entertainment that suits all ages. Miyazaki is a magician, and I believe he can do anything with film.
But, of all the ones I've seen:
1-4 are all on the same scale for me. I love them equally, so I put them down randomly.
1. Spirited Away - The biggest box-office smash to come out of Japan.
2. Laputa: Castle in the Sky - Not to be confused with Howl's Moving Castle or its literary sequel Castle in the Air. Laputa, to me, is a classic adventure. It's undeniably beautiful, and I could never get enough of Sheeta yelling "PAZU!".
3. Howl's Moving Castle - I'm slightly biased, because HMC by Diana Wynne Jones is my favorite book, and while Miyazaki is a genius, I felt his version did not do HMC a direct justice (other than being animated by him). But, all aside, judging for the film by itself, I thought it was fabulous.
4. Princess Mononoke - A take to the destruction of nature and several extreme perspectives. Beautifully scored and created to depict outsiders, power, loyalty, and industrialization.
5. Whisper of the Heart - a very simple story with a great plot. It was in this film, that the main character from "The Cat Returns" is introduced. I loved it that you could relate so well to two teenagers stuck in the glory of summer. This movie makes your heart whisper. (HAR HAR, corny pun).
6. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind - I could never get over the fact that bugs were loved in this film, but I loved the idea of those flying saucer-things (flying being a common motif in all of Miyazaki's films).
7. Kiki's Delivery Service - Again, I may be a little biased due the fact that I first saw it dubbed (with Kirsten Dunst's horrible voice), but then on the other hand, I loved the other films..more.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of his other works.
But, apparently (I just discovered) Turner Classic Movies is having a Miyazaki Appreciation month, and 9 of his films are aired every Thursday! And JUST MY LUCK, there's only one Thursday left. I missed some of my favorites (and some I don't own)! =(
Luckily, however, they are two of the films I haven't seen: Only Yesterday and Pom Poko!!
Aaah, what a long post. It's so obviously I'm a overly obsessed and crazed fangirl. @_@
