yea its rather wierd. do u know that the snake is actually dragon? and hes the dragon's little brother. than one day he got into trouble and got punished. his dragon hair, legs, fangs r all cut off, thus becoming the snake we see now. and on the day where the zodiac party was held, the dragon came to find his brother and brought him to the party to get registered in the zodiac. as the dragon is the elder, he was placed be4 the snake. end of story^^
