So, a few days ago, my precious iPod fell from my speaker (which situates itself next to me) onto.. my wooden desk.
I did realize until the next day that it wouldn't boot up--and showed a stupid little !folder.
A few days later (today), I tried booting it up again, but soon, I kept getting sad little iPod icons consecutively. No hope.
I looked up countless websites ranging from iPod services to Toshiba hard drives to help blogs like this:

which give instructions and directions to replace a broken hard drive (which I had planned on doing to save money [a $250 Apple service charge]). I finally looked through the comments of other iPod owners and saw a popular technique called the "Hold and Slap": meaning to put it on the hold button and giving it a good slap.
I was skeptic, of course. The first time I slapped it, you'd think I was brushing dust off of it. So, then after I worked up my courage, I gave it a good hard slap. Nothing. A second time, this time to the side. Again, nothing.
I kept reading and looking around for cheaper hard drives, all along wondering how I was going to explain to my older brother (who bought it for me for Christmas).
After reading a few more techniques including an extreme "slap" slamming the iPod into a kitchen table a few times, and dropping it hard 3 inches above a hard surface, I got really depressed.
Then, I tried dropping it estimating 3 inches or so (not directly on my wooden desk. After all, how did the damage begin?) on a few papers on my desk--you know, for some cushioning. XD
Once. Nothing. Twice. Nothing. Then I slapped it hardly to the back and the side. It was still booting up. Finally, I kissed it on its little smug LCD screen, coddled it, and even stroked its frame with my nose.
Then I saw the main menu.
I even checked to see if flipping the hold button repeated for 10 times affected it (another technique which restarts your iPod). All my playlists are there, and as far as I can tell all 7 GB of my music is O-K.
I am so livid happy, and I hope to spread on the word!
If you're iPod is "sad", ***** slap it.
