I bet it's hard, I've picked up a few things as well but not much... I would like to learn though
sorry I put it in the wrong forum
what I think makes it hard is the tone/emotion they put into their words... it's not like english or french... I would very much like to learn a third language

Its also the speed in which they say the words lol

ahh, there's that too, I often find myself having to rewind when I watch the show just to catch what they said cause they have to switch the subs right away for the next sentance... but I;m reading faster now

I guess you can compare that to when I learned to speak spanish... although I don't know any of it anymore, that was in high school, and I hated spanish. such a boring language when you can allready speak french... why would I want to learn a language that so closely resembles my own? is what I kept telling the school, give me something uncommon and interresting, but nooooo, it had to be spanish :face82:
I mean, yeah it's a good language, I'm not dissin' it... it just resembles french wayyyy to much to be any fun to speak or learn

I'm not really interested in learning japanese.
It'd be pretty cool if you could speak it but I'm not very keen on learning it...

I did pick up a few Japanese words as I watched through animes, but I didn't exactly learn it per say. I can't speak it, but I can tell what a simple sentence may mean if I listen to it carefully. I'm considering taking classes in Japanese in the future, but that'll have to wait until I have completely learned French ^_^.

i wish i had a grammar book...or a book that could teach me the writing...thats harder than the speech...

It doesn't teach you writing, just how to say and prononce things.

well, in a way, I'm kind of re-learning Japanese, because it's become a little rusty since I've moved away from Japan 12 years ago. But I'm just doing it because I want to really, and I plan on going back someday

yeah, lol, my native tongue is french and I learned to speak english just by watching tv, and playing video games... mortal combat is what probobly kicked off my english reading... cause he spoke at the same time he said
"Round One"
"Fight"
"Finish Him"
"Fatality"
etc etc
from those few words I was able to gradually learn the rest cause it taught me some basic things
and I all I remember hearing when mortal combat first came out was the pappers saying it was violent and had no value to our children

Just from watching anime I've learned lots of things.
When something went wrong on my computer, and the view of movie stopped, I was still able to understand, what they're talking about (in japanese)

oh.. i remember my first japanese word is "sayonara"...
then, while playing King of Fighters, a player there cried "tou-san gomen!" (im not sure about the spelling). my brother said it means "sorry father", so that's the second.
the others, i've learned from the net.

I know quite a bit of Japanese, mainly on how to greet people when you first meet them, how to adress them properly, and some other stuff. Also stuff picked up some stuff from anime (mainly the rude words xD).
I can also read Hiragana (well, most of it at least).
For those of you that want to be able to read hiragana, katakana, and some kanji, try out this rpg game from this site:
http://lrnj.com/
It really helps ;D

Well, I signed up for Japanese Class before watching anime. Then I used anime to help me learn some of the terms and it did help me a great deal. have to becareful with the rude words in anime though. Not really suitable to say it to an acquaintance or someone you've just met.
Stopped taking the class last year. So far, I have read most of hiragana, half of katakana and none of kanji. =.="

Hmm, in regards of speed they actually aren't talking very fast. It's basically the same when I'm talking to my friend... Or maybe we just talk fast? Anyways, I can understand most japanese anime shows RAW, sometimes though there may be a few complicated words that I need to look up in the dictionary...
I'm going to go to Japan and teach English there for about 4 years, then come back and be Psychologist ^_^

I'm probably the worst off of all. Since young I've been exposed to Japanese culture but I can only speak like a kindergarten kid up to now. (Didn't really go the way to learn it properly.)
Sigh...my Japanese is kinda stagnating...zzzz
