View Full Version : Ichigo's Natural Powers?

Ichigo gained his soul reaper powers from Rukia, but he had been abnormally powerful before with the touching, talking to, and speaking to spirits. Would he have eventually had powers like Orihime, Uryű, and Chad have if he had never met Rukia? They are strong, but they awakened their powers one their own. In a way, I guess Ichigo started a chain reaction, what with everyone who was involved in some incedent that had to do with hollows in vols. 1-4 ended up having powers of some sort in the end of vol 4 and during vol 5. I'm sorry, it's late-ish in VA, and I don't even know if I'm making any sense! But I just didn't think it was entirely correct for Ichigo to have had to be given the power to become a sould reaper when his friends have unique abilities. There are other Soul Reapers in the story, but so far I haven't seen anyone else with hair burrets that turn into things that resemble fairies...

<<Take into mind that I have only read volumes one through five, and have never seen the anime, so there might be an answer to this discussion in there somewhere :rolleye09 >>

Well, first off, to the developement of abilities, I don't think so. The reason Orihime and Chad developed their powers is because when Ichigo is around, he emits a tremendous amount of spiritual force, which activates spiritual abilities in certain people. The main reason I think for Orihime and Chad's powers being different are things of special significance. For instance, Orihime's flowers are from her hairpins, given to her by her deceased brother, they obviously have great meaning to her, and provide a focus for her spiritual power. Chad's power stems from his herculean strength, and his strictly defensive manner, thus armor. Now let's take Ichigo, we don't see any significant things about him except for the fact he can see ghosts, so Shinigami makes sense. Also, there may be the fact that receiving Rukia's Shinigami powers may have provided a blueprint for his own powers to develope, instead of having them shape themselves by taking form in one of his more pertinent traits. But we could theorize and come up with crap all day about this, the simple fact is we don't know, you can think what you want and don't let facts stop you from thinking what you want

Hmm.. I kind of think if Rukia didn't lend her death god powers to ichi, that ichi would become sorta like Don (the wierd guy who created the whole BWA HA HA HA thing). See, Don kinda developed his powers on his own, although not death godly powers, they are still some form of spirit powers. Kind of like what Ursa said about Rukia lending her powers and making sort of a blue print for ichi. Think of it like when you help somebody start up a stalled engine using jumper cables. One engine is dead, but when given a boost from a working engine, the stalled engine starts up again. And yes, Chad and Orihime gained their powers from the tremendous amount of spirit energy that flows out of ichi. Pretty much, if Rukia hadn't lent her death god powers to ichigo, he wouldn't have gotten the boost he needed to become a Death God on his own and Orihime and Chad wouldn't of developed powers. Ichigo could still become something like Don though. And that's my two cents.

woooow.....thank you for replying! I had asked many people at my school who have read BLEACH the exact same question, but they had no answer. Both of your theories are very well put, and now Ichigo's character and place in his story make a lot more sense.

But if anyone still wants to reply, be my guest! We don't have to stop here :winking56

After I downloaded BLEACH Volume 6, I understood Ichigo's connection to Chad and Orihime's attaining of their powers. I can't wait to see what happens next!

I think without rukia, ichigo'd still have obtained his deathgod powers..he got them when he was at the edge of death right? he pulled the powers from within in order to survive when his chain had been cut..but even before he met rukia, a hollow was already after his family. If enough stress got to him, i'm sure he'd have snapped. How late in life would it have been and would his family have survived to that point? no idea, but i'm certain his powers would've come around sooner or later~
And that in turn would have eventually attracted shinigami, and a whole weird relationship would spawn! or maybe they'd try to kill him :O people do fear that which they dont understand after all *nod nod*. Who knows?

I doubt that Ichigo will have become a shinigami even if he never met Rukia. Yeah, he has a power to see & talk to ghosts, but his own shinigami powers were basically asleep then. Without Rukia's powers acting as some sort of catalyst, Ichigo will not be able to awaken his own shinigami powers during Urahara's training. His zanpaku sword, Zangetsu, is the evolve form from the original sword that he's been using earlier. Zangetsu told him directly that Rukia's powers acted as a catalyst to Ichigo's own powers. So, I doubt that gaining Rukia's powers into himself were useless to Ichigo. It's actually important in order for him to be a shinigami later on.

Freya-

When is the name of Ichigo's zanpakutou released? I'm trying to find the chapters 62 to whatever (depending on how many are available online) so that I'll understand what many of the other users on this forum know.

....plus....I just wanna read BLEACH! :doindadom

Thanks so much Ursa, I'm glad that there is someone at this site who doesn't mind answering my questions! (I usually have quite a few, so that may be why >.<)

I kinda think that Ichigo might be a reincarnated soul reaper...although I am not entirely sure about that. I might be wayyyy outta the woods here, but it's just a guess...

I was thinking something along the same lines, Kurosaki-san. After all, where did he origionally get the power to see, speak to, and touch ghosts? Maybe one of his ancestors was a soul reaper, so the power is in his bloodline. It would have to have been from his mother's side, you know; Ichigo's father can't see ghosts, but there was never a yes or no as to if Ichigo's mother could see spirits. Plus, Ichogo's sisters (I'm sorry, I forgot their names! I only remember Yuzu) can also see ghosts, and the darker-haired sister could see Ichigo as a soul reaper (thought that was Ichigo's fault, since he eminates power) and could see the hollow that killed her mother (though she didn't know that it did, she just thought it was a normal child until she saw the thing behind the hollow. right?).

About the "reincarnated soul reaper" thing: I started to think maybe he was the reincarnated Kaien. Cuz when Shinigami (who are already dead right?) die, wouldn't they, in turn, be sent to the human world (dead humans = Soul Society, dead spirits = human world)? Kaien and Ichigo do look a helluva lot a like, and their similarities are mentioned by both Rukia and Byakuya.

In what volume is Kaien introduced? 'Cause I'm on volume eleven, and don't know who he is yet >.<
