Yoruichi's ethnicity?

What exactly is yoruichi's nationality? Does it ever say in the manga/anime? Or does anyone know of some other source that can be trusted? Like a direct quote from the creator?

I don't think shinigami's have an ethnicity. Granted her skin color is darker than everyone else's but it wouldn't make sense for her to be the only one that's a different ethnicity, especially since she's supposed to be related to Urahara.

They could be cousins. Also, Yoruichi seems to be the only shinigami who can transform into an animal. So maybe it's a way to make her more unique. Either that, or she could just be really tanned.

inter-racial marriage between yoruichi's parents. she could be related to urahara as mentioned because one of her parents was in urahara's family. perhaps due to some circumstances they all died and that makes her the only living relative to urahara. ta daah!! :D

That doesn't make them relatives though. Them being cousins has to be the most logical explanation. Obviously, someone from Yoruichi's family married someone from Urahara's family. I say they are cousins because they treat each other as equals, so it's not like she's his niece or any other type of relation.

Lemme ask you something, skyblue-san: if it isnt too much trouble, are you from the americas? I am from the usa, but i noticed that anime doesn't seem to be as color-conscious as the tv shows here in the us. So therefore I dont think nationality is as important to them when it comes to their anime. It's sad, actually, to think that us americans, the freedome people, are some of the most color conscious people out there...... We need to start taking notes from other countries.

I agree that she has dark skin and kinda like brownish and purple-ish hair which makes her look different from a typical japanese. But, i still think she's better off speaking Jap and from the looks of her face, I'm sure she's an asian.
