I guess post-rock is considered, alternative... in that case, uhh Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, umm Mono, and Red Sparowes are good.

I also like franz ferdinand and Muse thats all i can think off.

Among my favourite "alternative/rock" bands are: I Mother Earth, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Thursday, Incubus, should they qualify, Billy Talent, Radiohead, Oasis, REM, and probably a few more that I'm just neglecting to mention off the top of my head.

Muse has been mentioned a number of times in this thread -- are they something really worth looking into?
