View Full Version : Is Yama-jii affected by old age?

It is obvious that you age in soul society. It must also mean you will die from old age in soul society. So will Yama-jii die within the next lets say 500 years because of old age? Or will he be forever strong and immortalize in that old body of his?
And proof that people age in soul society is Rukia and Renji. They grew up in one of the poorest places in Soul Society. There's also Yarichiru who was like 2 when she met Kenpachi and is now like 7.

I think the only way to die is by being killed or starving.
I think people in SS age much slower than we do, like how Soi Fong only aged several years, like 7 or 8 in a century.
But I think time has affected Yama-jii, because Shunsui said that he was a bit rusty w/ his fighting skills when he and Ukitake fought him.

well i dont think he has crazy stamina b/c he's old. but i dont think he's gonna die of age... i mean yea maybe ppl in SS are like the elves in Lord of the Rings, u can only die in battle or other crap like that but not age.

Well...I'd say yes, but very unlikely he'll day anytime in the far-off distant future lol. And him being rusty...I think the only reason is because, well...he's the leader of the Gotei 13. When does he ever do anything but sit around bossing the others around...which we must assume because we don't see him do anything else. ^^;

Though one has never been seen to die of old age its possible i guess. I think it wont but rather that one can only die from Disease [Hisana], being killed, and possibly starvation. There could be a point in Soul Society where one apperance stops to degenerate and theoretically be able to live forever since well, you already died once, i see no reason why one has to die again by natural means.

Yeah, he hides his soul slayer in a cane for goodness sakes! And he isn't fighting as much as probably did when he was young

Yama-jii is not affected by old age at all, just look at his body when fighting kyouraku and ukkitake. That mans got life held by the hand. He wont die from that, nor is affected

bad question. Even in our world people still are fit as a fiddle at 70+ they look old as hell but can do 100+ push ups and run marathons. The last marathon I ran (I'm 25) a 60+ dude completed it, and he wasn't the only one.
If you take care of yoru body it keeps up till you just die.

I find it odd...souls dying in Soul Society. What happens to the souls?

Well SS isint really heaven. cuzz Aizen is not in Heaven, no?

Yama is in no way affected by old age. He wupped up on two senior captains with extreme skill and experience, without breaking a sweat. And I think in soul society it works the opposite way. The older you are, the more refined and stronger you become, while your mind and body are unaffected by age.
I dont think hell die any time soon. He founded the academy like 200 years earlier. Why die now?

I think "age" is nonexistent in soul society.

@SLVR - it's 2000 years.
Now, case in point: note that both Ukitake and Kyouraku are both more than 2000 years old (they looked like teenagers when they studied in the Academy, 2000 years ago), and yet are not affected by old age. Age is not a factor for souls with reiatsu, they age to a certain level (Renji and Rukia) and then simply stop aging.

I think aging in SS is directly in porportion to the individuals spiritual pressure. As in higher the spiritual pressure the slower they age, that would explain why Yama ji, Ukitake, Shunsui has hardly aged over 2000 years and Rukia and Renji aged over 100 years.

Age has to be a factor in SS. I think you can die in SS you just age so slow that it makes you seem like an immortal. If you don't die due to age then SS would be overpopulated. It would have every single human that ever died. And Shinigami dying due to hallow is outweighted by the fact that Shinigami kills more hallow than hallow killing shinigami. Remember when a Shinigami kills a hallow, the soul is purified and sent to SS.
So really the only souls that never appear again are souls that die or hallows killed by Quincies.
And I was just wondering, is Yama-jii part of a noble family, therefore, borned in SS or was he a human that died and became a shinigami?

I don't think age is a factor in SS. With Yama I think he died at an old age and was some sort of Martial arts god in his lifetime. He hasn't aged since day one. For those of u who think he has gotten rusty I highly doubt it. The only thing that degenerates from neglect would be stamina. Skill would be recovered in may a few seconds of battle. Take this from me I practice Aikido and took several years off. I came back and I'm still just about where I left off except I am not as good at Break falling from the more fierce throws anymore lol.
Maybe just his face aged. Yama looked ripped when he took of his shirt

Well, possibly souls with Reiatsu don't age? I mean, they feel hunger, and so seem to have most problems as souls. It's only fair that they won't age as compensation.

Nope. He is as strong as steel when he fought Ukitake and Shunsui. I mean, just look at his rock hard muscles. An ordinary old man would have flabby muscles by then.

Beyond that, he was able to Shunpo at least as fast as Kyopuraku and Ukitake. And he fought them and wasn't even breathing ahrd.
An old man with his strength depleting would never have been able to do that.

i doubt old age affects yamamoto, like Undying said, he was able to do shunpo [flash steps] as fast as ukitake and shunsui and possibly faster... he was able to almost paralyse nanao just by looking her so i seriously doubt old age affects him
I don't think they age
I mean some of them are older than half a milenium and they don't seem older
and still rukia nd renji did age a bit and they've always had reiutsu

If they are spirits and they live forever then i don't see how they can age, i think you may stay the same age since you died. (like Parakeet) But at the same time Rukia and Renji aged in SS. I think this may be a hole in the plot, unless they reach a certain age and stop ageing depending on thier reiutsu.

According to what we have been shown, the higher one's Reiatsu is, the less does he age. Yama is the perfect example. His looked the same 2000 years ago.
