Bleach not as popular as Gundam Seed?

I've been looking at the local Japanese book store here in NYC in the past 5-6 months, I've not yet seen one anime magazine with Bleach on the cover.

Haven't seen Bleach on the cover of Newtype magazine or Animage, etc.

Why is Gundam Seed so popular, while I have watched Gundam Seed, I don't think it is on par with Bleach in terms of story.

Perhaps, I think it has to do with Bandai's media influence on these magazines.

I just want to see one special issue of Newtype that dedicates on Bleach, so far, a dozen or so on Gundam Seed, Destiny, etc.

Newtype consistently has Gundam series on its cover? Hmm, I wonder why. All you need to do is take a look at the magazine's name to understand.

gundam seed was released before bleach was so its a little bit more popular i think plus its animation is better. ^ ^

SEED is overrated in my opinion but it does have quite a large fanbase. As previously said it was released before Bleach and may be more identifiable and who knows it might even sell more. You should probably take a look at their market research and then you will probably have an answer.

Seed is as good as Bleach. IMO. However, GS seems to be "a bit" more popular than Bleach coz Kira fanboys and fangirls are dying to see his face in every episode of GS.

Gundam seeds popularity will die down. Its a below average show, and it doesnt deserve its fanbase. Bleach is just beginning to grow in popularity and I imagine that if it gets licensed, its popularity will soar greatly.

Gundam seed is way overrated....Bleach owns gundams seed anytime...As a anime fan...i have only watched till half of gundam seed and never got to watch the other half...y?...cos its boring except for the bots that looks cool thats all....While on the other hand Bleach has keep me excited from the 1st ep to the current ep right now even though its in the filler arc now...its good seriously

Agreed, I just despise Gundam seed and Destiny because it just doesnt live up to the quality of other gundam shows such as Gundam wing, or even G-Gundam.

Gundum is earlier, finished, licensed, and on American TV.

Bleach, however, is far from finished, unlicensed, undubbed, and not on American TV.

Give it a couple of years, Bleach will definitely be bigger. They'll probably be able to get the TCG over to America from Japan too.

My point was that Animage, Newtype are just a few of the Japanese anime magazines. So far I've seen mostly Gundam Seed on the cover, some Naruto, and a bunch of other animes. But I have not seen Bleach on the cover of them.

Naruto seem to be the big thing in Japan right now but even Naruto does not appear on the cover that much.

Probably has to do with Bandai's influence on the media companies.

Every issue of Hobby Japan is about Gundam, they should rename it to Gundam Today..

here in japan those Magz are like "un-popular"

hence why they appeal more to the american/west side of the world more.

they would onry highlight licensed anime, and note "highlight"

Well,the Gundam Franchise has been entertaining fans all around the world for atleast 25 years now(Big Gundam Fan right here!!! lol)..so,it's only normal that GSEED is very popular...the CE timeline is the the first to have had a sequel(not counting Zeta...) So,ppl are very excited about that and whatnots...

Bleach is being publish by Shonen Jump/Jump magazine..so,trust me,they're make it make popular..lol

I think G Gundam is one of the worst..though,still a good/mediocre anime,but doesn't reach all the high standard of Gundam...As for Gundam Wing,heck,I won't got into that...

You want Bleach to be more popular...well,to it to reach as much audience as possible..it will sooner or later have to be dubbed/licensed.So,that means,the US will have to get their hands on it.Hardcore fan will be disapointed with the dub and lot more will b**** about how lame the dub is and how their ruined it and so on...

I don't really care if Bleach doesn't get the exposure and populatrity it deserves or not...as people enjoy Bleach and see it for what it truly is(a real precious gem^^),I'm happy. lol

I have to disagree. While I enjoyed "Gundam Wing" and Endless Waltz (despite the continuity problems with Waltz), "The 08th MS Team" was, at least in my opinion, far better than GW.

In regard to "Bleach" being less popular than "Gundam Seed", I would say that any "Gundam" series is going to get more coverage than an upstart series like "Bleach". "Gundam" has had an entire empire built up for it since the late '70s, while "Bleach" has only been out since - what, 2003? - in manga form, and something like last year as an anime.

OMG! There's an easier way to explain this.

Bleach is only released in fan dub and japanese version. It will be a long ass time before someone translate it and release it to the American public.
An example is Naruto. There's like 150 episode of naruto before they decided to dub it and put it on Cartoon Network for the American audience. Now Naruto is very very popular because not everyone is an anime fanatic that track down fan dubs and scanlations like we do : )

Gundam on the other hand has been out for a realllllllllllllllly long time. I think the series started in the late 1980s. I might be wrong, but still that proves my point. Gundam has been out way longer than Bleach and, therefore, is more popular in America than Bleach.

Though, we anime critics and fanatics may considered Gundam mediocre, imagine if this was the first anime you saw. Gundam was one of the main revolutionary anime that started the American anime base. Gundam along with Dragonball are what caused America to become intrace in Japanese anime.

THAT IS WHY GUNDAM IS MORE POPULAR IN AMERICA.

i think we just have to give Bleach more time to grow before comparing with anime like Gundam and i am saying that as a neutrial cause i havent seen Gundam at all.

Anyways considering im a big fan of both bleach and the entire gundam series, i would have to say they're both totally different types of anime. why the comparison? One of mecha based (usually more for boys), the other is more urm... i don't know how to describe bleach. So if Gundam is more popular than Bleach, its just because it appeals to more people than Bleach.

Anyway the Gundam series is soooooooooo long! So of cos the fan base is big. eg. I watched gundam seed cos i followed gundam wing and liked it. then i watched GS destiny cos i like gundam seed. its a self-reinforcing process. Bleach is so new! of cos its lesser known.

Well,Bleach would probably fall under the Shonen manga/anime category...
If you break down Bleach,take out all that is original material..you'll get the very typical Shonen story..about a teenage boy who posseses a certain ability,meets rivals,fights evil with his fellow co.,becoming stronger and stronger...and so on.

Every manga storyline is essentially the same. Boy wants to become stronger. Goes through some stuff, becomes stronger, ends the season. Next season someone even stronger shows up, train becomes stronger, ends season. ETC.

Examples would be, Dragonball Z and Naruto. Two very popular anime that essentially have the same storyline.

Animage and Newtype mags are Americanized by the companies who dub and sell anime dvds for 20 bucks a pop. The distribution, toy, model and cosplay companies sell ads in their pages. So its a given that if an anime has not been licensed in America then it will never see ink on a cover of those mags cause those companies will never get a chance to leech money off of all of the fans who read them. They will put Bleach on the cover when they are good and ready to relieve you of your allowance/paycheck with merchandise they brainwash you to buy.

As for the hobby magazine and Gundam: Gundam has an infinite number of mecha that they made into models for fans to buy. Each series has over a dozen new mecha that can be made into model kits and sold in different sizes and grades. The market potential has assured that every so often there will be a new Gundam anime series to keep Bandai going.

Gundam does not at the slightest bit interest me at all. But it was out long before bleach so that might be the reason. Anyway, Bleach is constantly attracting new fans and i believe that as time passes by, it will become more popular than Gundam. Bleach ROXX!!

well..our comic magazines here in Malaysia had put BLEACH as the cover for sum times already..so...well....gundam is more popular thn BLEACH? maybe..but one thing is for sure >>> the world is turning BLEACH now!! Bwahahahahahahaha
