If you know the Kanji for his name I can find the meaning of it. Can someone scan it from the manga or find a pic of his name in kanji?

There are alot of different meanings for Kenpachi because it depends on what Kanji its written with. Obviously 'ken' means sword but its the second half of the name that could have multiple meanings. Since it is the name given to the strongest swordsman the last half might mean power or strength.

Actually, Kenpachi refers to Ken's mastery with the sword, I believe it means "ultimate sword master". I could be wrong though.

I don't know the kanjis but I red this on a forum:

Zaraki:'grow late' or ' night watch' / 'tree'
Kenpachi:'sword'/'eight'

what Hanatarou says in Episode 36 (sorry, it's not 37) at like 18 mins:

For generations,"Kenpachi" has been the nickname given to the person who most loves fighting and has killed the most people...
...and it means "no matter how many times he is killed, he will never go down."

It's when Hanatarou is telling Ganju Ichigo doesn't have a chance against Zaraki.

Thanks!!! That sort of clears it up. The other time is when Kenpachi gave Yachiru her name. He said that Kenpachi is the name given to the strogest Shinigami in the geneartion. Don't know what Zaraki is tho...

Zaraki is the name of Rukongai district that he is from. The number for the district is 80 and since higher numbers are the more rundown, poor and dangerous districts in Rukongai, its pretty bad. Incidentally Yachiru's last name Kusajishi is the name of her district which is number 79.

Well, actually it's like "Kamaitachi", which means "Ultimate Projectile Master", so if we go by that meaning then "Kenpachi" will mean "Ultimate Sword Master".
And as for "Kenpachi" being given to the strongest Shinigami blah blah blah... it's just that the title is given to such a prodigy like Zaraki. It's not the direct meaing of the word.

Zaraki is the name of the place he came from (Zaraki which is area 80 of the North Alley in Rukongai). It's the worst and most lawless place of Rukongai. When he lived there, he was nameless. While that time, he became proficient in swordsmanship.

He later took the name Kenpachi when he found Yachiru. Kenpachi is a title bestowed on the strongest swordsmanship.

In one of the episodes, it clearly states that the given name, Kenpachi, means Undefeatable. Zarakai himself has earned the name and the reputation.

I thought Zaraki just took the name "Kenpachi" when he found Yachiru, and bestowed it apon himself when he named the two of 'em.

Seriously, in chinese terminology, Kenpachi means eight swords, which literally means he's good in fighting or maybe his bankai consists of eight swords...
