Windows Media Player - to watch AMVs and anime
VirtualDub - to encode footage for editing, and for final encoding for AMVs
TMPGEnc - encode AMVs to MPEG-2 to enter into AMV contests at conventions
DVDdecrypter and DVD2AVI - used to get DVD footage for AMVs
Adobe Premiere - AMV Editing
Adobe After Effects - very complex AMV editing

NotePad ++ will edit anything. You should check it out instead or switching between PHPEdit and regular NotePad.
